Position Overview

  1. SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Senior Employment Specialist assists veteran participants in preparing to re-enter the civilian workforce by providing person-centered employment-focused case management. They connect veterans to resources training certifications and workshops that support job search placement and long-term job retention. This role guides veterans through program services and S:US/community supports from pre-employment to ongoing career development while working closely with the Veterans Services team to advance employment and housing stability goals for veteran families.

In addition to these responsibilities the Senior Employment Specialist provides leadership within the employment team by supervising training and mentoring Employment Specialists. They serve as the primary liaison to the Department of Labor DVOP/AJC manage HVRP referrals support strategic program goals foster community partnerships and ensure compliance with funder requirements.

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise and support Employment Specialist staff providing guidance oversight and performance feedback.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and case conferences to ensure consistency and quality of service delivery.
  • Provide onboarding and ongoing training to new Employment Specialists on program protocols case management and employment services.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Department of Labor and other key stakeholders regarding HVRP referrals and program updates.
  • Deliver person-centered case management to support veterans employment goals while addressing related needs such as housing stability health and financial barriers.
  • Develop and regularly update Individualized Employment Plans (IEPs) outlining goals for training job placement and retention.
  • Conduct employability and job readiness assessments; provide skills training in résumé development interviewing job search techniques and workplace preparedness.
  • Provide individualized career counseling job coaching and job retention support.
  • Facilitate weekly employment workshops for program participants focusing on job readiness skill development and career advancement.
  • Connect participants to workforce DOL VA and community resources including training education housing healthcare financial literacy and public benefits.
  • Cultivate employer relationships conduct business outreach and identify employment opportunities aligned with veterans skills and aspirations.
  • Support participants in building presentation and self-advocacy skills for landlords employers and training providers.
  • Engage veterans in the community through field visits and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all services in compliance with agency and funder standards.
  • Achieve monthly and annual performance goals while ensuring adherence to program deliverables.
  • Take initiative to research learn and become proficient in tools that enhance productivity and outcomes such as AI platforms and emerging job boards.
  • Contribute to the S:US Centralized Employment Hub to strengthen overall agency placement outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with the employment team to deliver coordinated support that advances veterans employment and housing stability.
  • Represent the program positively with external partners modeling professionalism and respect in all interactions.
  • Participate in supervision team meetings conferences and trainings to strengthen service delivery and professional development.
  • Respond to information requests from internal S:US staff.
  • Support the missions and core values of S:US and draw attention to behavior that undermines group effectiveness or is inconsistent with core values.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Qualifications

  1. REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree or a combination of education and experience considered.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in workforce development veteran services or case management.

  1. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelors in human services or related field preferred.
  • Veterans Strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to use technology for recordkeeping and service delivery
  • Qualified applicants will have a demonstrated ability to develop and manage relationships with employers key community partners workforce agencies training providers and other stakeholders.
  • Staff members will be expected to work across all five boroughs of NYC and be flexible with fieldwork emergency response and scheduling to meet the needs of the program and people we serve.
