Job Summary

LOCATION: Brunswick Elementary School

CONTRACT YEAR: 12 MONTH

SALARY: $91906 - $112913 (Commensurate with years of experience/Based on the proposed FY27 Administrative Salary Scale)

START DATE: JULY 1

Job Description: The Principal will serve as the instructional leader and chief administrator of Brunswick Elementary School a new elementary school opening for the 2026-2027 school year. The Principal is responsible for the daily operations of the school and for establishing the vision culture systems and structures that promote high levels of student achievement.

The Principal will lead a culture of continuous improvement and collaborate with staff families central office leadership and community partners to ensure a safe positive and academically rigorous learning environment that supports the growth and development of all students.

Direct Accountability and Report: Works under the supervision of the Director of Instruction. An annual evaluation will be based upon the job description division and personal goals and objectives specific to the position student achievement data and overall school performance.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision Curriculum and Instruction or Education from an accredited college or university required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Holds a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in Administration and Supervision K-12.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of successful experience as an Assistant Principal or Principal preferred.
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the current issues principles and practices in public education and the ability to apply them to the needs of a school.
  • Must possess knowledge and effective skills in curriculum development instructional practices and interpretation of test data.
  • Must possess the ability to plan and supervise the work of others while maintaining effective working relationships with students parents staff and the public.

Essential Performance Duties:

  • Adhere to federal and state laws School Board policies and ethical standards
  • Collaborate with central office and division leadership
  • Communicate effectively with parents staff and community stakeholders
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and Use student achievement data to guide instructional decisions school improvement planning including those with exceptional needs.
  • Coordinates with the central office in recruitment and selection of employees the proper maintenance of employee personnel files corrective action and other human resource issues.
  • Develop communicate implement a shared vision of teaching and learning
  • Encourage family involvement and community partnerships
  • Encourage staff to continue to grow professionally and utilize best practices with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
  • Engage and continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars workshops or professional meetings or by conducting research.
  • Establish and sustain a safe inclusive and academically rigorous learning environment
  • Implement division evaluation systems and support professional growth
  • Lead efforts that result in measurable student academic progress
  • Maintain appropriate personnel documentation in collaboration with Human Resources
  • Maintain high expectations for student achievement and conduct
  • Maintain required student and personnel records
  • Manage the school budget in alignment with division policies
  • Oversee daily school operations staffing and scheduling
  • Promote equity and nondiscriminatory practices
  • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction cooperative curriculum development and student learning.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs including curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Recruit select supervise evaluate and retain instructional and support personnel
  • Supervise and evaluate teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school districts evaluation plan and makes recommendations regarding goals areas needing improvement and continued employment.
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

  • Ability to strategically manage school operations technology systems resources and competing priorities while engaging families and community stakeholders through clear effective communication.
  • Commitment to ethical leadership reflective practice and continuous professional growth in alignment with Virginia Department of Education expectations for school leaders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum instruction assessment and the use of data to promote academic progress for all students in alignment with the Virginia Standards of Learning and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Expertise in effective leadership practices including staff supervision and evaluation professional growth program implementation and the development of systems that support safe equitable and academically rigorous learning environments.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Instruction and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
