Austin PBS seeks an experienced Videographer & Editor with a primary focus on long-form story-driven editing. This position centers on crafting full episodes interviews and extended segments for broadcast and digital platforms while also creating and shooting content in support of the stations various productions promotions online initiatives and other projects as assigned.
Series you may work on include Central Texas Gardener Overheard with Evan Smith High School Quiz Show Austin Austin InSight and more. Must be a skilled visual storyteller preferably with experience in motion graphics. Candidates should be comfortable working in a high-pressure collaborative and creative environment.
Applicants should demonstrate a background in television music and/or digital production as well as a mastery of a subset of the required skills. At Austin PBS youll do meaningful work with a team of coworkers dedicated to the mission of public media. We offer a supportive and collaborative work environment. The Videographer & Editor position reports to the Production Manager and will work closely with the VP of Production and various producers.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Edit long-form broadcast and digital programs including full episodes extended interviews and multi-segment shows from rough cut to final delivery.
- Collaborate with reporters and producers to determine cinematographic look and feel for a variety of different scenarios including interviews field and studio segments. Collaborating on cultivating the pacing tone and high level visual style.
- Alongside editing; provide production support including ingesting and logging footage syncing video and audio tracks executing rough and final cuts.
- Assist as needed with limited pre-production work from initial contact through completion including logistics of location shooting scheduling equipment & personnel and collaborating with interviewees to determine best set-up.
- Be responsible for archiving and maintaining an organized media workflow.
- Create and format content for various social media platforms.
- Act as videographer using broadcast video cameras (studio and field) and/or cinema-style cameras and a variety of lenses.
- Develop and share pre-production materials in advance of shoots including shot lists rundowns and other planning documents to align crew producers and editorial goals.
- Be able to instruct and collaborate with crew either in the field or in the studio to communicate desired production outcomes.
- Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Apply exemplary technical skills to shoot interesting compositions that adhere to our visual style guide and capture excellent audio.
- Perform on studio crews in various roles as needed (Videotape/DIT Floor Manager Camera Teleprompter et cetera)
- Participate in training and mentoring production staff or interns as needed.
- Partner with Engineers on troubleshooting technical issues when required.
- Perform other production duties as assigned.
- Attend and actively participate in station department and show production meetings.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- 3 years of experience working in a related field
- Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere After Effects Photoshop) experience in a Windows environment preferred
- Lighting experience preferred
- Certificate or Degree in TV production or related field preferred
- Canon XF and C series camera experience is a plus
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of television production concepts principles methodology and techniques
- Knowledge of professional video production and post-production procedures techniques and standards in a non-linear production environment
- Creative decision-making skills
- Proficient in Google Workspace
- Exhibit an understanding of public media mission and values
- Work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels
- Ability to work non-standard hours (night weekends) and overtime as necessary
- Ability to lift or carry equipment up to 30 lbs
- Regularly operate video and computer equipment
- Regularly interact and exchange information with others both verbal and written
- Ability to observe details at a close range
- Ability to communicate information and ideas accurately to others
This is a full-time hourly position primarily working onsite at the Austin Media Center. Hourly pay rate is $28.84 /hour.
