Job Summary
Summer Teaching Assistant (TA) positions for courses offered to high school students as part of Ithaca Colleges Tech Innovation Summer Academy. TAs for this program are required to be physically present on campus during class times which occur Monday through Friday from roughly 9am 5pm (specifics will be determined by the faculty). TAs may also be required to assist outside of class time to complete other duties as needed. The TISA program will run from Monday July 13th Friday July 31st with a new group of students starting each week. TAs are expected to be available starting around July 6th to prepare for the role (i.e. meet with the faculty) and assist their faculty as needed. We are looking for 4 TAs for this role.
Duties and responsibilities
Teaching Assistants perform many leadership organizational and classroom management
tasks to support both faculty and program participants. Duties and responsibilities include:
Helping faculty with lesson preparation including arranging the classroom collecting or distributing materials setting up equipment and any other support needs as requested by faculty
Provide programming or other technical assistance lead discussions or group projects or review lessons with participants on a one-on-one basis or in small groups
Giving extra help to participants who need special accommodation or are struggling
Tracking attendance and assisting faculty with grading assignments
Collaborating with faculty regarding participants concerns or behavioral issues and recommending solutions
Reinforcing course rules and regulations with participants
Serving as a role model for participants both personally and professionally including modeling behaviors that are consistent with a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion
Assisting with the movement of participants from one campus location to the next
Other duties as necessary or assigned
Qualifications
Candidates should express genuine interest in working with a diverse group of students in a learning environment and have a basic understanding of human social and educational development. Candidates with prior experience as a teaching assistant or working with youth in a camp environment a history of providing leadership to a variety of age groups and the ability to foster the development of a community through a variety of methods are preferred. Preference will be given to current Ithaca College students whose education technical skills and experience align with the TISA TA role.
All TAs must consent to and be able to pass a federal and state criminal history and sex offender background check by the college comply with the Minor Protection Policy attend a health and safety meeting and be able to practice and adhere to the methods and guidelines as stated in the Ithaca College Safety and Medical Plan.
Compensation
This position is compensated at an hourly rate of $16 per hour and lunch on M-F is provided in the campus dining hall. TAs selected for this program will work approximately 25-30 hours per week. Applicants in this position will be required to submit timecards as part of the pay process. Room and additional board beyond lunch are not provided for this position. Summer on-campus housing and meal plans are available through the Office of Residential Life and Campus Dining respectively.
