Collegiate Intern 1 and Intern 2

The Prince Georges County Planning Departments Collegiate Internship Program is designed to provide job training in planning and urban development to qualified college students who anticipate careers in these areas. Interns will be assigned to work with the Planning Department staff at The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) in Prince Georges County. Internships will be available for the summer months from May 2026 through August 2026. Interns will work full- time (40 hours per week) and will be compensated. Telework/Hybrid work schedules may be permissible based on the needs of the department and subject to the availability of resources. Telework/hybrid work schedules will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Program Coordinator.

The Prince Georges County Planning Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince Georges County Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland Prince Georges has a population of approximately 900000 residents with 15 Metro Rail Stations and is home to the University of Maryland at College Park National Harbor NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and a world class parks and recreation system. Prince Georges County has 27 municipalities from rural to urban communities with a land area of approximately 500 square miles. The Planning Department is located in Largo MD near I-495 and approximately 1.4 miles (30 minutes walk or 7 minutes drive) from the Downtown Largo Station located on the Blue Line. Student Eligibility

• Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
• Students must have at least a junior class standing and be enrolled in a degree seeking higher education program at the undergraduate or graduate level and anticipate being enrolled in a higher education program in Fall 2026
• Must have access to reliable transportation (personal vehicle or public transportation)

• Effective interpersonal skills
• Familiarity and/or experience with computers
• Leadership experience
• References from past supervisors and/or professors
• Self-motivation and the ability to work well with minimal supervision
• Strong writing skills
• Work or volunteer experience that might be applicable

Program Dates and 2026 Pay Rates
Summer internships will run May 26 2026 through August 14 2026.
Intern I: $19.23/ /hour
Intern II: $23.91/hour

Deadlines

• Students must submit an M-NCPPC online application to be considered for employment.
• Students must submit a college transcript. An unofficial transcript is acceptable or other appropriate official documentation demonstrating that the student is enrolled in fall semester in a degree seeking higher educational program.
• Students must submit a personal statement indicating goals and aspirations that may be enhanced by participation in the program. Personal statements must be at least one page long.
