Job Summary

Overview

The Executive Director of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) provides strategic and operational leadership for all professional revenue cycle functions across Eastern Virginia Medical Group (EVMS-MG). This role is responsible for optimizing financial performance ensuring regulatory compliance and advancing best-in-class revenue cycle practices in support of EVMS-MGs academic mission clinical operations and partnerships. The Executive Director will set the strategic vision for the physician enterprise revenue cycle drive operational excellence across front-end and back-end processes and partner closely with clinical administrative and health system leaders to improve financial clearance coding accuracy cash collections and patient experience. This leader must demonstrate executive presence strong physician engagement skills and the ability to navigate complex matrixed relationships in an academic health system environment.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Establish and execute the strategic vision for EVMS-MGs professional revenue cycle aligning with organizational financial goals growth strategies and best-practice benchmarks.
  • Serve as the senior revenue cycle leader and subject-matter expert for EVMS-MG partnering with executive leadership department chairs administrators and other stakeholders.
  • Develop multi-year roadmaps to modernize revenue cycle operations technology analytics and workflows.

Operational Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all professional billing revenue cycle functions including:
    • Front desk and scheduling workflows
    • Financial clearance and registration
    • Charge capture and coding
    • Revenue integrity
    • Claims submission and denial management
    • Accounts receivable follow-up and collections
  • Ensure timely accurate billing and collections while improving key performance indicators including days in AR denial rates clean claim rates net collection rate and patient responsibility collections.

Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage departmental operating budgets and staffing models to meet financial and operational objectives.
  • Collaborate with finance leadership to ensure accurate revenue recognition reserves and financial reporting.
  • Identify revenue risks and opportunities; implement corrective action plans to improve cash flow and reduce leakage.

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Sentara Health leadership to align workflows systems and strategies related to Community Connect Epic Professional Billing and shared revenue cycle initiatives.
  • Collaborate with compliance internal audit and IT to ensure governance training and accountability.
  • Engage physician leaders and clinical teams to drive adoption of best practices and optimize documentation coding and charge capture.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Oversee Epic Professional Billing optimization and enhancements to streamline workflows and improve performance.
  • Implement data-driven dashboards and reporting to support executive decision-making and operational transparency.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations payer requirements HIPAA standards and internal policies.
  • Maintain rigorous compliance oversight of billing coding and collection practices.
  • Serve as the primary revenue integrity leader for the organization.

Leadership & Culture

  • Lead mentor and develop a high-performing revenue cycle leadership team.
  • Manage change effectively across processes staffing and technology initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability collaboration and service excellence with a strong focus on patient experience.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration Healthcare Administration Finance or related field required.
  • Masters degree (MBA MHA or equivalent) preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in physician revenue cycle operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading revenue cycle functions in a large multi-specialty physician practice preferably within an academic medical center.
  • Experience working within or alongside a large integrated health system strongly preferred.
  • Epic Professional Billing expertise required.
  • Proven success improving financial performance operational metrics and provider engagement.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of Medicare Medicaid and commercial payer reimbursement policies.
  • Strong analytical financial and operational acumen.
  • Executive communication skills with the ability to present to boards physicians and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of denials and revenue leakage and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across matrixed organizations.
  • Ability to manage complex initiatives and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
