Role: Motor Vehicle Body Repairer

Department: Vehicle Fleet Management

As s qualified Motor Vehicle Body Repairer you will be capable of carrying out a high standard of damage repair refurbishment and painting of police vehicles and plant.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out repairs of damaged vehicles to a high standard assess damage and prepare costings

  • Advised Command Team on repair viability when required.

  • Diagnosis and repair of faults on police vehicles plant or equipment using manufacturers in house electronic diagnosis equipment.

  • Where necessary attend incapacitated vehicles at the roadside or vehicle base and recover or repair same.

  • Strip & repair accident damaged fleet using modern methodology.

  • Work at any of the Police workshops on a short- or longer-term assignments as indicated by Vehicle Fleet Management.

  • Attend training courses both technical and personal development either in-house or at manufacturers premises occasionally requiring overnight stay.

  • Complete all approved Vehicle Fleet Management forms and miscellaneous paperwork in a precise and accurate manner.

  • The nature of the role requires the post holder to undertake annual health assessments.

Skills and experience:

  • Must possess a City & Guilds/NVQ 3 in Motor Vehicle Body Repairs.
  • Must have at least 5 years experience following an indentured apprenticeship ideally in a main dealer outlet.
  • Must possess a full driving licence.
  • Must undertake and pass a Force Driving Assessment.
  • Be prepared to undergo role specific training when required.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
