Job Description: School Bus Driver
Position Title: School Bus Driver
Reports To: Transportation Coordinator / Principal / Superintendent
Employment Type: Part-time
Position Summary
The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and school-related activities while maintaining a safe respectful and supportive environment. The driver ensures compliance with all state laws district policies and safety procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safely operate a school bus along designated routes and schedules
Pick up and drop off students at assigned locations in a timely manner
Maintain order and appropriate student behavior on the bus
Follow all state and federal traffic laws and school transportation regulations
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report mechanical issues promptly
Maintain accurate records including mileage student counts and incident reports
Communicate effectively with students families school staff and transportation supervisors
Respond appropriately to emergencies accidents or student health needs
Attend required trainings meetings and safety drills
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Qualifications
Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements (or willingness to obtain)
Clean driving record and successful completion of background checks
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage student behavior calmly and respectfully
Dependable punctual and safety-focused
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods and operate vehicle controls
Ability to assist students entering and exiting the bus
Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Ability to lift up to X pounds if necessary
Work Environment
Operates in varying weather conditions
Responsible for student safety in a mobile environment
May involve early mornings afternoons and occasional evenings for field trips or events
