Director Facilities & Operations

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director Facilities & Operations to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Director Facilities & Operations oversees the maintenance energy operations and environmental services operations of assigned facilities. Further the Director Facilities & Operations provides leadership to management staff and oversees all maintenance program initiatives.

  • Identifies analyzes and implements energy projects for assigned facilities.

  • Prepares department budget for funding requirements and monitors expenditures.

  • Makes routine inspections of facilities to uphold maintenance standards.

  • Works as liaison between staff and departments to continuously assess facility conditions and keep facility assessment database accurate and up-to-date.

  • Prepares reports for leadership team regarding facility conditions and needs.

  • Collaborates in the planning of new construction and renovation projects.

  • Ensures facilities maintain a high level of emergency preparedness at all times.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Function

  • Develops and implements plans for the direction supervision and maintenance of assigned facilities.

  • Administers the budget for facilities services and functions.

  • Collaborates with staff to prepare furnish and maintain facilities.

  • Manages and coordinates special projects.

  • Collaborates with other departments to orchestrate special events.

  • Works with suppliers and contractors on repairs and projects and reviews proposals for work to be done.

  • Oversees the acquisition and use of materials and equipment.

  • Prioritizes and assigns work orders related to the assigned facility and auxiliary properties.

  • Provides guidance training and supervision to department staff.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

  • Demonstrate positive leadership to teammates and represents oneself as a positive stakeholder in all situations.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Energy Management and Automation department which includes (2) direct reports and (9) total staff members.

  • Provides coaching mentoring and technical assistance to direct reports and facilities staff.

  • Investigate and resolve any issues resulting from substandard performance and ensure service policies and procedures are followed by team members.

  • Prepare Energy Management budgets for submission to the Administration.

  • Monitors cost expenditure of the management budget.

  • Provides assistance in the design and planning of new facilities and spaces consults leadership on potential needs for capital and budgetary planning.

  • Close monitoring of Central Energy Plants operation to assure that the Plant consistently operates at optimum efficiency.

  • Maintain computerized databases of energy consumption and costs prepare appropriate reports forecasts and budget numbers.

  • Manages the holiday and summer break energy curtailment program.

  • Monitors and analyzes the campus distribution network of chill water.

  • Monitors and analyzes the efficient end-use of building chill water usage.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field.

  • Graduation from an accredited Mechanical or Electrical Trades school with major work and/or degree in Facilities Construction Management Architecture Engineering or Technical Management.

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience

  • Communication: Ability to influence others articulate strategic vision and ensure clear and persuasive communication.

  • Extensive knowledge of Building Automation Systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with campus and department managers staff and consultants.

  • Knowledge of building HVAC control systems including both pneumatic and electronic Direct Digital Control systems.

  • Knowledge of Chilled Water loops and associated pressure related hydraulics.

Any relevant education certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
