Job Description:
A Manager Mechanical - Ferro in a steel manufacturing plant (typically involving Submerged Arc Furnaces) is
responsible for ensuring maximum equipment uptime maintenance and reliability of production machinery. Key duties include leading maintenance teams implementing preventative/predictive maintenance troubleshooting and ensuring safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Reliability:Develop and execute preventative predictive and corrective maintenance schedules for furnaces raw material handling and tapping equipment to minimize downtime.
- Equipment Operation:Ensure the mechanical efficiency ofSubmerged Arc Furnacesand auxiliary equipment.
- Troubleshooting:Lead the technical team in troubleshooting mechanical failures diagnosing root causes and implementing immediate repairs.
- Safety & Compliance:Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations (OSHA company policy) and environmental standards conducting safety training and conducting audits.
- Team Leadership:Supervise train and manage maintenance engineers and technicians optimizing shift performance.
- Spare Parts Management:Manage inventory for critical spares to ensure timely availability for maintenance.
- Documentation:Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities breakdown history and performance reports.
Requirements:
- Education:Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience:Several years of experience in the maintenance of ferro-alloys or similar heavy process industries (e.g. DRI steel melting).
- Skills:Strong technical knowledge of hydraulic systems material handling systems and furnace mechanics.
Key Focus Areas:
- Electrode handling systems.
- Hydraulic tapping mechanisms.
- Raw material crushing and screening plants.
- Pollution control equipment.
