Job Summary

MISSION

The Manager Finance & Accounting is responsible for leading a team of Finance and Accounting professionals and managing day-to-day financial operations including banking sales audit accounts receivable sales tax and financial reporting and general accounting that aligns with IFRS requirements.

This position will be directly involved in executing strategies that will allow for future growth and efficiencies within the finance team and beyond. The successful candidate will be a key business partner who collaborates with other areas of the business to support financial reporting analysis and key cross-functional projects.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

  • Timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and management reporting on a monthly quarterly and annual basis
  • Ensuring compliance with internal controls across the business
  • Identifying and driving efficiencies within the accounting team
  • Fostering a healthy coaching and mentoring environment
  • Ability to develop and execute on process improvements that drive accuracy and efficiency
  • Timely response to internal queries for information and/or assistance

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Functional

  • Manage the overall accounting functional areas on a day-to-day basis
  • Challenge the status quo and consistently identify areas for improvement by diagnosing issues and working to resolve them
  • Champion continuous improvement projects to better position the accounting department for the strategic growth of the business including through the responsible application of new and emerging technologies
  • Act as an internal consultant by providing user-friendly financial expertise to other functional areas of the Business
  • Identify opportunities in cash management while processing payments in a timely manner to maintain strong relationships with vendors
  • Build and maintain good relationships with financial institutions
  • Ensure timely and accurate period quarter and fiscal year close processes:
    • Prepare and review month-end journal entries balance sheet reconciliations and supplementary financial reports
    • Support the presentation of financial results to senior management providing insightful and timely analysis on results when compared to plan and prior year in partnership with the Financial Planning and Analysis team
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure variances from plan are documented and understood
  • Assist with annual budgets and forecasts
  • Act as a key liaison and accounting contact with all external auditors
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit to develop document and maintain a strong internal control environment
  • Review and process various sales tax filings while administering payments by due dates
  • Develop accounting policies and support the accounting team with the interpretation of complex technical issues
  • Ad-hoc requests and projects as assigned
  • Act as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all design and decision-making processes and proactively keeping their expectations and needs top-of-mind

Qualifications :

Work Experience / Education / Certifications

  • CPA designation
  • University degree in Business Accounting or Finance
  • 5-10 years of experience in finance including at least 2 years in a management position
  • Experience in a retail industry is an asset

Competencies / Skills / Attributes

  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and sales tax
  • Income tax expertise is an asset
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Strong competency in Excel Word and Powerpoint
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization
  • Experience leading and motivating teams
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines multi-task and complete projects on time
  • Must take initiative and have a curious mind
