Director IT (mfd)

Were seeking a Director IT to lead our eight-person IT team and shape how technology enables our business. Youll drive the strategic direction of our internal IT operations whilst ensuring day-to-day services run smoothly. This role balances leadership strategy and hands-on involvement as we transition towards greater automation and modern IT practices.

Your team provides comprehensive IT services: end user support backend infrastructure (network servers virtual and cloud environments) and both internal and customer-facing systems. Youll work closely with Information Security to develop and execute our security roadmap.

This position emerged from splitting a previous hybrid Director IT role into two focused positions. This split is done to distribute the workload ensuring that neither high-level strategic planning nor complex technical execution is compromised by competing priorities. Youll concentrate on leadership strategy and business alignment whilst working alongside a senior technical colleague who handles deep technical implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead mentor and develop a team of eight IT professionals

• Build a collaborative culture focused on service excellence and continuous improvement

• Define clear goals responsibilities and career development paths for team members

• Foster knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration

Strategic Direction

• Develop and execute IT strategy aligned with business objectives

• Drive the transition from reactive support to proactive automated service delivery

• Evaluate and implement modern IT approaches tools and frameworks

• Plan infrastructure evolution to support company growth and changing needs

Service Delivery & Operations

• Ensure reliable delivery of end user support and backend services

• Oversee network server virtual and cloud infrastructure for internal and customer-facing services

• Establish and monitor service level agreements and key performance indicators

• Balance operational stability with innovation and modernisation initiatives

Security & Compliance

• Partner with Information Security and Compliance teams on strategy and roadmap development

• Oversee execution of security initiatives across IT operations

• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations

• Promote security awareness and best practices throughout the organisation

Stakeholder Management

• Serve as primary IT interface for senior leadership and business units

• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and roadmaps

• Communicate IT strategy progress and challenges clearly to non-technical audiences

• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate buying decisions

Essential Experience

• 7 years in IT leadership roles managing teams of 5 people

• Proven track record leading IT operations in fast-growing technology companies

• Deep understanding of modern IT infrastructure: cloud platforms virtualisation networking and security

• Experience driving IT transformation programmes and automation initiatives

• Strong knowledge of Information Security frameworks and compliance requirements

• Track record of building high-performing teams and developing talent

Technical Foundation

• Solid grasp of cloud technologies (AWS Azure GCP) and hybrid infrastructure

• Understanding of modern IT service management frameworks (ITIL DevOps SRE principles)

• Familiarity with automation tools infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices

• Knowledge of enterprise networking security architecture and identity management
