Job Title:Domestic Violence Advocate - Shelter Support (Weekend/Holiday)

FLSA Classification:Hourly Non-exempt

Reports to:Shelter Program Manager

Job Location: Tacoma WA; In-person work required.

Salary:$25.00 - $28.58 per hour

Benefits:Paid Time Off and Paid Sick Leave; Paid Holidays; 50% employer paid Medical Dental and Vision insurance for employee only. Insurance coverage for dependants available at employee cost.

As a pioneer in the domestic violence service field YWCA Pierce County opened Washington States first emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors in 1976. This milestone established YWCA Pierce County as a leader in providing comprehensive support services for domestic violence survivors.

As an inclusive non-profit organization YWCA Pierce County offers crucial assistance to domestic violence survivors and their children. Our services are accessible to all survivors regardless of race ethnicity gender gender identity or expression religion or sexual orientation. To overcome language barriers our bilingual staff and interpretation services ensure smooth transitions for all clients. Annually YWCA Pierce County supports over 5000 adults and children affected by domestic violence providing them with essential resources and support.

Summary

The Weekend & Holiday Domestic Violence Advocate provides support crisis intervention and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence in the Support Shelter and provide onsite support during weekend and holiday shifts. This position ensures continuity of services and safety during non-weekday hours while upholding trauma-informed care and shelter standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning.
  • Offer quality information referrals and resources.
  • Conduct weekend/holiday shelter intakes and complete paperwork.
  • Document shift activity and communicate essential informationatshift changes.
  • Maintain shelter cleanliness and support health standards.
  • Monitor alarms security cameras and facility entrances.
  • Submit maintenance requests following agency procedures.
  • Distribute tangible goods andmaintainlogs.
  • Adhere to Advocacy Based Counseling (ABC) principles and WAC/RCW requirements.

  • Ability to work independently during weekend/holiday shifts.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret policies and safety rules.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Human Services or related field (Bachelorspreferred).
  • Minimum one year of advocacy or social service experience.
  • Experience working in diverse communities.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experienceaccepted.

Other Qualifications

  • Acceptable criminal history background check.
  • Completion of DV Victim Services Training withinfirstyear.
  • CPR & First Aid preferred.
  • COVID-19 vaccination asrequired.
  • BilingualSpanishEnglishpreferred.
