Basic Function: | Maintains security of designated area (e.g. buildings grounds sales floor); reports threatening or unusual conditions to appropriate authority (e.g. fire dept. police dept. paramedics). Reports to Security Supervisor or other designated supervisor. |

Examples of Duties: | Duties/essential functions may include but not be limited to the following: Patrols and inspects designated area (e.g. buildings grounds sales floor); checks for fire or safety hazards damage unauthorized or disorderly persons and/or shoplifters; ensures doors and windows are secure locks and unlocks buildings. Reports threatening or unusual conditions to supervisor or appropriate authority (e.g. police dept. fire dept. paramedics) by telephone or radio; apprehends and detains violators until police arrive; sounds alarm and assures orderly evacuation of buildings in event of emergency. Ensures fire extinguishers alarm systems emergency and exit lighting are operable; sets alarms. Maintains log of activity during shift; completes incident reports. Provides escort service assists visitors provides general information warns persons of rule infractions (e.g. carrying forbidden objects) or violations (e.g. parking in prohibited area). Operates service vehicles to patrol area and pick up and deliver materials. May appear and testify in Student Conduct Court and civil court. May provide assistance in performing groundskeeping (e.g. shovel and plow snow apply salt to walkways) custodial (e.g. mop and wax floors replenish supplies in restrooms) and maintenance duties (e.g. paint unplug stopped drains change ballasts in lights). May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees. Performs related duties as required. |

Minimum Qualifications: | High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one year of security or related experience. License/Certification: Valid Ohio drivers license with safe driving record. Knowledge Of: Security and safety issues Skill In: Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with University personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g. to assist public communicate with authorities) Ability To: Recognize threatening and unusual conditions and take appropriate action |

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: | May be exposed to variable weather conditions; requires moderate physical effort involving extended periods of walking and standing; may work varied hours and shifts to include nights weekends and holidays; requires on-campus travel may require occasional off-campus travel. |
Working Schedule: | This is an intermittent opening; hours to be determined typically working 14 hours one week and next week 21 hours. As an intermittent employee the department is permitted to work you up to 1000 hours in a fiscal year if work is available. Our fiscal year is July 1 through June 30. |
