Job Summary

The University of Chicagos Department of Surgery is searching for a full-time associate or full professor to serve as the Section Chief Surgical Oncology. Practice locations include both the main Hyde Park campus as well as our off-site affiliated locations throughout the UChicago Medicine Health System. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications. The University of Chicago Medicine has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery Comer Childrens Hospital Bernard A. Mitchell hospital for adult inpatient care and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine totaling more than 550 beds in service and net patient care revenues over $1.4 billion. The new cancer pavilion opening in the spring of 2027 will be the only freestanding inpatient and outpatient Cancer Center in the Chicagoland area and will provide a unique opportunity to reimagine the cancer care model of the future and deliver true multidisciplinary-patient centered care. New ambulatory facilities are in Orland Park River East Northwest Indiana and Ingalls Memorial Hospital.

The University of Chicagos Surgical Oncology program is renowned for its cutting-edge treatment of cancer through surgical interventions. The multidisciplinary team at UChicago Medicine combines expertise in surgery oncology genetics and advanced imaging to deliver personalized care for complex cancer cases. Surgeons are leaders in minimally invasive and robotic techniques striving to improve outcomes while minimizing recovery time. The program is also dedicated to pioneering research and clinical trials offering patients access to innovative therapies and contributing to advancements in cancer care worldwide.

Prior to the start of employment qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois 3) be board certified or board eligible in General Surgery and Complex General Surgical Oncology and 4) be fellowship trained in Complex General Surgical Oncology.

The appointee will have expertise in the management and surgical treatment with proficiency in both open and minimally invasive reproaches of complex upper gastrointestinal tract and hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. We are seeking applicants with a demonstrated track record of progressive leadership roles and a portfolio with productive and impactful clinical translational fundamental basic science research.
