Position Overview
The Head of Faculty: Humanities provides strategic academic leadership and operational oversight of the Faculty ensuring academic quality regulatory compliance staff performance and student success. The role requires a senior academic who is able to lead within a structured governance environment while driving academic excellence programme development and faculty performance.
Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer the incumbent will be responsible for leading academic staff strengthening governance and quality assurance practices and ensuring that faculty operations align with institutional strategy and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and operational management of the Faculty of Humanities.
Lead academic planning curriculum oversight and programme implementation.
Manage and support Programme Coordinators lecturers WIL Coordinators and Faculty administrative staff.
Ensure compliance with institutional policies and external regulatory frameworks (CHE DHET SAQA).
Oversee assessment governance moderation processes and academic quality standards.
Drive faculty performance improvement initiatives and student success strategies.
Monitor academic delivery teaching quality and assessment integrity.
Support accreditation processes audits and institutional reporting requirements.
Strengthen governance structures and ensure alignment with academic policies.
Contribute to institutional strategic planning and academic leadership initiatives.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
A Doctoral qualification in Disaster & Safety Management Criminal Justice Policing Law or a closely related discipline (mandatory).
Minimum of 3 years experience in an academic leadership role within higher education.
Demonstrated experience in academic programme management and faculty-level oversight.
Strong understanding of higher education regulatory frameworks (CHE DHET SAQA).
Proven experience in curriculum development academic quality assurance and governance processes.
Experience managing academic teams and supporting staff performance.
Strong academic administration and operational leadership capability.
Preferred Attributes
Experience within a distance learning or private higher education environment.
Strong research profile and postgraduate supervision experience.
Evidence of participation in academic governance structures.
Ability to lead within a structured compliance-driven environment.
Strategic mindset with strong decision-making and problem-solving capability.
