Your Impact:
As the Vice President ofEcology and Climate youwillleadstatewide strategies that shape how The Trustees managesteward and restoreforests grasslands wetlands coastal systems andfarmland. You will guide the organization in sciencebased decisionmaking and ensure our land management practicesdevelop andreflectbest practices in conservation and climate resilience.
The Role:
This role leads the development and execution of organizationwide ecologyagricultureand climate strategiesand oversees major initiatives in habitat protection climate adaptation and sustainable land useto address the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. You willbe responsible forsetting priorities managing a highperforming professional team and collaboratingwithprogramstewardship and regional leaders.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implementcomprehensive strategies for thesustainable management offorestsgrasslandswetlands and coastal areasthat enhance The Trustees mission and deliver successful results.
- Articulate and implement priorities strategies and targets in concert with other Trustees program areas of conservation and resilience urban outdoors arts and culture property stewardship and recreation and public engagement.
- Lead and mentor a team ofecology agricultureprojectmanagementand habitat managementprofessionals fostering a culture of innovation collaboration and continuous improvementtowardsachievingpriorities.
- Utilize strong collaboration skills working in a matrixed environment in partnershipwith otherparts of the organizationtoward shared goals.
Program Oversight
- Oversee the design and implementation of ecologyagricultureand climate resilience programs aligned with The Trustees Strategic Planandsynergybetween programs.
- Overseebestinclass stewardship practicesthat support 167 rare species and 20 rare habitat types.
- Develop and overseeprogrambudgetsensuring efficient resource allocation and alignment with funding opportunities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent The Trustees with government partners conservation coalitions research institutions and community organizations.
- Serve as a leading voice for sciencebased conservation and climate policy in Massachusetts.
- Provide datadriven insights and recommendations on emerging environmental trends.
- Provide guidanceto educationengagementmarketingand stewardship teamsthatalignEcology and Climateteamgoals withvisitorand public engagement.
This is afull-time exemptpositionreporting directly totheChief Conservation Officer.
Requirements
WhatYoullNeed:
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in environmental science natural resource management ecologyconservation biologyorrelatedfield.
- 15 years of experience in natureconservation with a minimum of5-7years in a leadership role.
- Demonstratedexpertiseinland managementpractices conservation strategies climate adaptation and environmental policies.
- Experience leadingstrategic initiativesand managing complex portfolios.
- Excellent communication negotiation andinterpersonal skills.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and community outreach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exceptionalanalytical and problem-solving abilities with a passion for data-driven decision-making.
- Experience managing crossfunctional or matrixed teams.
- Experience developing budgets for large multiyear conservation or climate initiatives.
- Proven success inreceiving and administering complex multi-year grants forrestorationhabitatmanagementclimate adaptationand agricultural sustainability/research.
- Background in agroecology climatesmart agriculture or applied ecological research.
