We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Responsible Pharmacist to support distribution operations and ensure compliance with national and international pharmaceutical regulations. This role requires a strong foundation in regulatory affairs quality systems and pharmaceutical distribution practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Medicines and Related Substances Act (Act 101 of 1965) Pharmacy Act (Act 53 of 1973) and all relevant regulations
- Supervise purchasing importing storage packaging supply and sale of medicines and scheduled substances.
- Establish and maintain an effective Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with SAHPRA PIC/S WHO and OHS guidelines.
- Review and approve validation protocols SOPs deviations non-conformances and CAPAs.
- Oversee product release audits pharmacovigilance reporting and risk assessments.
- Manage dedicated storage areas (quarantine cold chain returns damages) and reverse logistics.
- Deputise the Responsible Pharmacist assuming full accountability in their absence.
- Lead quality review meetings and regulatory interactions with SAHPRA DOH and SAPC.
- Ensure compliance in handling recalled/quarantined stock product complaints and destruction of medicines.
- Drive continuous training in Good Distribution Practice (GDP/GWP) for all employees.
Requirements (Critical Skills & Experience)
- Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) and active registration with SAPC.
- 23 years experience as a Pharmacist or Deputy Pharmacist
- Must have experience in a pharmaceutical distribution/wholesale environment.
- Proven expertise in Digital Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Experience with Oracle R12 or similar ERP systems (advantageous).
- Strong knowledge of GDP/GWP SAHPRA licensing and Section 21 processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage risk assessments audits and CAPA close-outs.
- Excellent communication leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
