Job Description

Under the direction of the Recreation and Special Events Manager along with the Head Lifeguard the Pool Lifeguard enforces pool rules and regulations during recreational swim periods and performs facility clean-up and maintenance at the City pool. Monitors swimming activities within the municipal swimming pool to ensure the safety of the public.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the safety of pool patrons by preventing accidents and responding quickly to emergency situations.
Must know and be able to perform at all times all skills required for certifications.
Must follow and enforce pool policies and rules at all times.
Must be able to verbally communicate with both the public and staff effectively;
Provide exceptional customer service.
Maintains inventories and cares for City property and equipment.
Keeps supervisor informed of materials and supplies necessary to perform job duties.
Demonstrates cooperative behavior with team supervisors and the public;
Monitors and records compliance with safety and department guidelines and rules;
Communicates with a wide range of people as well as provide information and directions.
May involve cash handling and
Perform other related duties that may be required.

Qualifications:

Certifications & Licenses Required: Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification to include CPR and First Aid; or the equivalent thereof
Or completion of training upon hire before the opening of the City pool.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the employees start date.
Safety/Physical Requirements: Medium Tasks involve bending lifting walking carrying and or using a force equal to lifting 50 lbs.

Supplemental Information:

The City of Live Oak is seeking qualified applicants for the position ofLifeguard. This position is seasonal with work hours from May through August.

Candidates should also have the ability to work a varied schedule which includes holidays weekends mornings days and evenings up to 40 hours per week as assigned. Weekly scheduled hours may vary and are not guaranteed.

**Returning and New Lifeguards- Incentive Pay up to $400

Pay Rates:

1st Year Lifeguard - $14.50 (*)

2nd Year Lifeguard - $15.50 (*)

Sr. Lifeguard - $16.50 (*)

Lifeguard Headguard - $20.00 (*)

(*) Depending on experience.

*Reimbursement up to $200 for those who obtain lifeguard certification or recertification for the 2026 season and dependent upon successful completion of pool season.

(*) New and returning staff members are eligible for incentive pay up to $400. Incentive pay is awarded based upon the successful completion of hours worked below and the agreed upon summer completion date.

First 100 hours worked: employee receives $100 incentive pay

Second 100 hours worked: employee receives $100 incentive pay

Successful completion of summer with agreed upon completion date: employee receives $200 incentive pay
