Job Summary:The Automotive Technician III oversees daily shop operations while actively performing diagnostic and repair work alongside technicians. Performs and assists with complex diagnostics repairs and modifications to automobiles trucks tractors golf carts mules trailers and other equipment in accordance with standard trade practices. Conducts quality control and preventive maintenance inspections of completed repairs and upfit work to ensure workmanship meets departmental manufacturer and safety standards. Supervises trains and coordinates work for lower level Automotive Technicians.

Additional Department Summary:Reports to the Assistant Director of Automotive Services. Ensures work orders are completed accurately safely and on schedule. Provides high-level troubleshooting for electrical hydraulic drivetrain brake steering suspension HVAC and electronic control systems. Monitors productivity turnaround times and repair quality to ensure efficient workflow and minimal vehicle downtime.

Required Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of vehicle repair experience at an auto shop. Successful completion at an Automotive Technical Trade Center or equivalent facility. Must possess one (1) or more Automatic Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s).

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge:Advanced diagnostics skills. Familiarity with electrics electronic systems mechanical systems and computerized vehicle systems. Familiarity working on hybrid and electric vehicles. Ability to make precise repairs. Proficient at using the tools associated with automotive maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:Bachelors degree in automotive technology fleet management mechanical engineering or a related field. Advanced certifications in automotive repair or fleet management such as ASE Master Technician EV Specialist or similar credentials. Experience managing large and various fleets including specialty vehicles electric vehicles (EVs) and heavy trucks. Experience in developing and implementing training programs for technical and administrative staff.
