WUSF public media is a leading source of newsinformationand cultural enrichment for West Central reach over one million people monthly through our NPR news station WUSF 89.7Classical WSMR 89.1 & 103.9and an extensive digital presence including live streamingpodcastsnewslettersand social a department of the University of South Floridawe have a dedicated team of 80 professionals and an annual budget of $10 are deeply committed to building community through trusted journalism classical music and culture that reflects the world around us. Our professional staff works closely with talented student interns. Our main studios are on the USF Tampa campuswith additional broadcast and production facilities on the USFSM and USFSP campuses.

WUSF NewsInternshipsareconsideredmentorshipsworkingwiththenewsstaffofWUSF semesterand will begin shortly after thestartofthesemester.

WUSFNewsinternsarepaidfortheirwork. During the summer semester these are one two and five-day-a-week opportunities.

WUSF isseeking several internsfor the summer semester. Please indicate in your cover letter which position(s) you are interested in and why.

Summer internships (up to four) include:

WUSF Rush Family RadioNewsInternship (one intern) The Radio News internship is five days a week 40 hours a -depthnewsradiostoriesandwritingdigitalstories.

WUSF Rush Family Florida Matters Internship(one intern) The Florida Matters internship is five days a week 30 to 40 hours a potential show topics and guests booking guests screening calls gathering and editing sound pulling sound bites and writing and producing daily audio and digital stories.

WUSF-USF ZimmermanRush Family Radio NewsInternship (one intern) The Zimmerman internship is assignmentsconductinginterviewswritingandproducingdaily audio anddigitalstories. Students must be enrolled in the USF Zimmerman School.

WUSF Stephen Noble Digital News Internship (one intern) The Digital News internship is one totwodaysaweek(one mustbe Friday).Positionwillincludeproducing visual and audiomaterialforWUSFsocialmediasitesaswellasreporting radio anddigitalstories thatwilldrivewebaudience.

Duties:Researchingstories; conductinginterviewsbyphone; gatheringsoundforstoriesremotelyandinthefield; writingcopyforstories;assistingreportersasneeded;producingnewsspotsandin-depthpiecesasassigned(basedonknowledgeandskilldevelopment).

Datesof Internship:May 18 2026 to Aug. 6 2026. Orientation will take place at start of semester.

AverageNumberofHoursPerWeek:8 40hoursperweek.

Schedule:9: two or fivedaysaweek(Monday-Friday).Nopartialdayshiftsareavailable.

Qualifications

Minimum: vocational/technicaltrainingmaysubstituteatanequivalentratefortherequiredexperience.

Preferred:Theidealcandidatewillbeanactiveconsumeroflocalandnationalnews(includingNPR)andshouldhaveknowledgeoforhastakencoursesrelatedtojournalismcommunicationsand/ includingstudent newspapersandstations must haveaworkingvehicleandacurrentdriverslicenseclassE.
