About the role

The System Modelling division includes the functions of power system model development and provision operational software development power system application support and international peer collaboration. Sitting within the System Modelling division the Network Modelling & Information teams objective is to enable the business and stakeholders through provision of high quality fit for purpose power system models and support modelling capability in the context of increasing model complexity a broader user base and suite of cutting edge power system modelling tools

You will lead AEMOs Data Request function in accordance with NER 3.13.3 to provide fit for purpose high quality models to participants in-line with AEMOs obligations to maintain confidentiality.

You will own AEMOs Model Issues Reporting Page (MIRP) including tracking and resolution of model issues as well as internal reporting. You responsibilities will also include testing and integrating dynamic models for new connections into AEMOs Modelling Platform (AMP).You will support assessment of model standards and adoption of new tools and techniques such as Common Information Model (CIM) and IEEE/CIGRE real-code model standards.

What you will be doing

  • Provide expert technical advice on power system model management and development to support planning connections operations and real-time applications.
  • Provide expert technical input and detailed specialised knowledge to relevant internal and external working groups consultation and projects and carry out specific investigation and review draft reports.
  • Manage small to medium-sized projects autonomously mentoring and supporting technical team members.
  • Support uplift of power system modelling capability across the business including effective use of modelling tools management of model quality and evolution of modelling tools and processes to meet business and stakeholder needs.
  • Maintain update and revise internal documentation and procedures to support the above.

What you will bring to the role

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably in Electrical Engineering with a power system focus) or equivalent relevant discipline or work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern power system theory and key challenges power system modelling and power system analysis techniques. This should include a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles specifically relating to electricity transmission and generation.
  • Extensive experience in using power systems simulation applications such as PSCAD and PSS/E for power system modelling and analysis purposes. Proficiency in the use of programming languages and software packages to analyse data including Python is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in using Mudpack and SSAT as well as other analytical software such as MATLAB is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of professional engineers or equivalent over a wide range of planning and operational issues including management of timelines resources risks and forward mitigation measures.
