Job Summary

Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6 at Annandale and North Shore.

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students including 120 boarders (7-12) of whom approximately 25 are international students.

As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

Townsville Grammar School is seeking an experienced and strategically minded educational leader to serve as Director of Academics (Years 712) with an oversight responsibility for curriculum coherence across P6.

This is a senior leadership role for a high calibre educator who combines academic rigour operational precision and data informed decision making to maximise student achievement and strengthen whole school academic performance.

The Opportunity

The Director of Academics leads and manages the Schools Years 712 academic program ensuring excellence in curriculum design assessment timetabling external examinations and academic data analysis.

The position carries significant responsibility for academic governance regulatory compliance and performance tracking while contributing actively to the strategic leadership of the School.

Strategic Focus

  • Provide leadership in the development and optimisation of a cost-effective educationally sound Years 712 timetable using advanced timetabling software.
  • Drive data-informed improvement through the tracking and analysis of NAPLAN QCAA IB and internal performance data.
  • Lead structured performance monitoring and counselling processes for students requiring academic intervention.
  • Ensure strategic oversight of external examination preparation to maximise ATAR and IB outcomes.
  • Contribute as a trusted adviser on academic policy resource allocation and whole-school planning.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee subject selection processes class allocations and course viability.
  • Manage semester assessment schedules examination blocks and academic reporting cycles.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance and accurate data management within QCAA and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Analyse longitudinal data trends (Years 512) to identify faculty or KLA anomalies and inform targeted improvement plans.
  • Oversee MySchool academic data submissions and public academic reporting.
  • Manage EALD provision and international student compliance including CRICOS requirements.
  • Coordinate key academic events including Speech Day prize-giving ceremonies scholarship examinations and parent academic forums.
  • Maintain high standards in documentation policy currency and academic communication.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A relevant teaching qualification and current QCT registration.
  • Proven experience in senior academic leadership within a school environment.
  • Advanced capability in data analysis timetabling and academic systems management.
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with meticulous operational execution.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead with clarity and influence.
  • High-level judgement discretion and problem-solving capability.
