Elections Alberta is an independent non-partisan office of the Legislature. Elections Alberta is responsible for administering provincial elections by-elections and referendums. Our mission is to serve Albertans as an independent election management body committed to the administration of modern transparent and accessible democratic processes that ensure the integrity and enhance the value of Albertas electoral system.

Role Responsibilities

The Director Corporate Services works closely with the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Chief Electoral Officer to oversee the Offices corporate services including strategic and operational communications and media relations advertising web and social media content human resources reception records management policies and procedures and corporate support activities. The Director Corporate Services is also responsible for oversight of elector services including the service centre in the lead-up and during electoral events. The Director Corporate Services collaborates with all departments at Elections Alberta and contracted vendors to coordinate communication advertising human resources and corporate support activities prioritizing tasks and timelines based on organizational needs.

Specific accountabilities for this position include:

  1. Provides effective leadership including direction and coaching support to a dynamic multidisciplinary corporate services team responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of services that meet organizational business objectives.
  2. Oversees and provides management support to the Service Centre to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of elector services.
  3. Ensures engagement and communication strategies are effective and conducted in accordance with Election Albertas vision mission values and mandate.
  4. Procures and oversees vendors that provide communication human resource or corporate services.
  5. Oversees and supports human resources functions within the organization to foster a people-oriented culture and deliver on business goals and objectives.
  6. Ensures the effective and efficient delivery of external and internal communications and staff engagement deliverables

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

  • A post secondary degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years related experience in communications and corporate leadership.
  • Preferred 2-4 years in human resources management and/or leadership management and policy.
  • Experience in managing large events and project management.
  • Experience in communications marketing social media management and monitoring corporate publications reporting and editing.
  • Experience in large scale human resource recruitment and managing diverse teams.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of leadership and supervisory principles.
  • Expert level communication and social media knowledge including best practices in media monitoring and internal and external communications.
  • Knowledge of legislation with respect to election events.
  • Knowledge of the Public Service Act Master and Subsidiary Agreements human resource directives Employment Standards Code employee relations staffing principles recruitment practices and 1GX HCM functionality.
  • Knowledge of the Government of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety program and related acts regulations and code.
  • Knowledge of human resource functions including recruitment retention job evaluation employee relations and work force planning.
  • Knowledge of internal policies procedures and forms.
  • Strong working knowledge of communication planning web communications and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of records management processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including: Word Excel and PowerPoint.
