Hume Riverina Community Legal Service (HRCLS)
Location: Wodonga
Upper Murray Family Care (UMFC) is seeking expressions of interest from internal applicants for the position of Lawyer within the Family Law and Family Violence Practice at Hume Riverina Community Legal Service.
Consistent with UMFCs purpose that every child and young person is cared for and HRCLSs vision of ensuring equitable access to justice this role is responsible for delivering high-quality legal assistance services to priority clients particularly those experiencing family law family violence and related legal issues.
About the Role
The Lawyer will:
- Deliver legal information advice casework duty lawyer services and court representation in a trauma-informed manner
- Foster and maintain strong partnerships with community organisations and sector stakeholders
- Contribute to community legal education secondary consultations and professional development activities
- Support law reform and advocacy initiatives
- Provide supervision and support to lawyers paralegals students and volunteers as required
- Contribute to risk management compliance and program reporting requirements
- Uphold UMFCs Child Safe commitments and Sanctuary Model principles
About You
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Eligibility for a practising certificate in Victoria
- Commitment to social justice and supporting clients experiencing complex needs including family violence
- Strong trauma-informed practice capability
- Experience (or capacity to work) in family law and family violence matters
- Ability to work collaboratively within an integrated service model
- Highly developed communication skills including delivering community legal education
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Legal practice experience in Family law and Family Violence and court representation in the Magistrates Court of Victoria and/or the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia will be highly regarded.
