Role Title Senior Rigger / Supervisor
Reporting To: Senior Construction Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Rigger Supervisor is responsible for planning supervising and controlling all rigging and lifting activities on site to ensure safe compliant and efficient execution of construction works. The role provides hands-on leadership to rigging teams ensures strict adherence to lifting standards and procedures and supports construction delivery in high-risk industrial and shutdown environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Rigging & Lifting Execution
Supervise all rigging lifting and crane-related activities in line with approved lift plans procedures and schedules.
Ensure all lifting operations are properly planned risk assessed and authorized prior to execution.
Coordinate rigging activities with construction supervisors crane operators and other disciplines to avoid clashes and delays.
Team Leadership & Supervision
Lead mentor and supervise riggers and rigging assistants on site.
Allocate daily tasks and ensure teams are competent and adequately resourced.
Enforce discipline housekeeping and productivity standards within the rigging team.
Safety Health & Environment (SHE)
Enforce strict compliance with lifting regulations site SHE rules and statutory requirements.
Conduct toolbox talks pre-task risk assessments and lifting briefings.
Stop unsafe work and ensure incidents near misses and equipment defects are reported and addressed.
Equipment & Asset Control
Ensure all lifting equipment tools and tackle are certified inspected and fit for purpose.
Maintain rigging equipment registers and ensure defective equipment is removed from service.
Support proper storage handling and control of rigging gear.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure rigging works are executed in accordance with approved methods and engineering requirements.
Verify load weights centres of gravity and lifting arrangements prior to execution.
Support audits and inspections related to lifting and rigging activities.
Reporting & Coordination
Provide daily feedback on rigging progress constraints and safety issues.
Maintain records of lift plans permits inspections and crew competencies.
Report on own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

CAPABILITIES REQUIRED TO DO THE ROLE
Experience & Skills
Minimum of 5-10 years experience in rigging within heavy industrial mining or smelter environments.
Proven experience supervising rigging and lifting teams on complex lifts.
Strong knowledge of lifting regulations standards and best practices.
Ability to read and interpret lift plans drawings and load charts.
Strong leadership communication and decision-making skills.
Qualifications
Grade 12
Trade Test: Rigger (Section 13 or 26)
Lifting Supervisor certification (advantageous)
Working at Heights
Other Requirements
Valid medical certificate of fitness
Site Specific Induction
Willingness to work extended hours shifts and shutdown environments
Demonstrated authority to stop unsafe work
