Job Summary

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Clinical Care/Specialized Services Supervisor (MLS Supervisor) to oversees and ensures the smooth and efficient operations of the Tissue and Cellular Therapies (TCT) which includes the Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Processing Lab and Tissue Bank. Assumes responsibility for specialized tasks and leadership in addition to performing a variety of laboratory procedures many involving numerous steps and techniques that require the use of professional judgment and problem-solving skills. Continuously interacts and consults with the Lab Manager Operations Manager and medical director.

This position is 100% time Monday-Friday from 0800-1630.

Duties to include:

Maintains quality standards defined within job functions and quality initiatives.

Plans work activities to ensure smooth and effective operations of the laboratory.

Communicates in a clear efficient and effective manner.

Contributes to departmental success (suggestions committees projects etc.)

Monitors equipment quality control and preventive maintenance.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. The Clinical Laboratories are well recognized for providing outstanding and comprehensive care to the patients we serve. The educational programs that the department participates in includes medical students clinical laboratory scientists as well as biomedical learn more: Qualifications:

A bachelors degree in a chemical biological clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited college/university with specialized training in laboratory medicine or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Reasonable (1 3 years) clinical laboratory experience within the past five (5) years is required.

**Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT) or specialist certification in appropriate laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW) is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects work assignments policy updates etc is required

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated proficiency in communication and working well with others is desired.

Experience working in an academic health center is desired.
