POSITION

A full-time professional academic staff position is available in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs beginning April 15 2026. The working title for this assignment is Research Compliance Specialist with an official title of Grants and Contracts Compliance Specialist. This is a renewable assignment contingent on performance and funding. The salary range is $46000-$52000 based on experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and/or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate projects work independently and collaborate with a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of and experience with federal regulations relating to the protection of human subjects and animal welfare.
  • Experience with university research grant applications and/or administration of grant programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with people across multiple levels of the organization and from diverse backgrounds.
  • A concern for campus-wide service and a commitment to quality integrity and responsiveness.

DUTIES

  • Assist principal investigators researchers administrative staff and others to ensure institutional compliance with applicable research administration regulations at the UW System state and federal levels.
  • Ensure unit compliance related but not limited to: audit coordination conflict of interest responsible conduct of research intellectual property IRB IACUC export controls and other policies.
  • Serve as a key resource to campus regarding research administration compliance with respect to for example IRB IACUC and regulations at the institution UW System state and federal levels.
  • Assist ORSP IRB IACUC and faculty/staff with maintaining documentation regarding compliance areas in the event of audit.
  • Provide administrative support (e.g. record meeting minutes coordinate schedules manage records/documentation) and other support to the IRB IACUC and ORSP.

THE UNIT

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs has 5 staff as well as graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers. The primary mission of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is to maintain a supportive environment for research scholarly and creative endeavors of the faculty academic staff and students. ORSP coordinates and administers a variety of internally funded research and professional development programs directs the activities of the Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration and facilitates proposal preparation and submission to external agencies in order to serve the needs of the institution.
