Cattery Coordinator

Pay Range: $17.00$18.00 per hour

At Humane Society for Hamilton County our cattery is more than a room full of catsits a moving system of care cleanliness enrichment and human connection. The Cattery Coordinator helps keep that system running smoothly so every cat gets what they need and every adopter feels guided supported and confident.

The impact youll make:

The purpose of this role is to assist in managing our cattery team while maintaining strong competency in both cat and dog handling/operations when needed. Youll help ensure animals under your supervision receive outstanding careproper cleaning nutrition and daily enrichmentwhile staying alert to changes in mental/physical well-being and communicating concerns quickly so action happens fast.

Youll also co-supervise team interactions with customers during animal showings train staff on customer service techniques that match pets with people and support compatibility introductions for cats and adoptershelping move animals into loving homes.

What youll do:

Youll assist in managing and coordinating cattery operations including:

  • Participate in onboarding and training of new animal care employees; provide new employee training.
  • Perform required animal care duties and maintain a supervisory understanding of departmental protocols and procedures.
  • Oversee daily cleaning completion and protocol adherence to maintain an exceptional level of cleanliness and a disease-free environment.
  • Ensure each animal receives appropriate food/diet clean bedding enrichment exercise access to water and a clean living space throughout the day.
  • Intervene/re-direct the team as needed to keep work on task protocols followed and daily tasks completed in a timely manner.
  • Address adopter questions and concerns promptly courteously and professionally during showing/meet-and-greet processes.
  • Alert leadership regarding department concerns including animal or customer emergencies/injuries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with safety sanitation personnel policies and departmental protocols.
  • Embrace and foster a positive whatever it takes culture in the department.
  • Coordinate a monthly position schedule for the cattery team.
  • Ensure animals needing transport are ready for volunteers.
  • Complete and report weekly food/supply inventory to the Cattery Manager as requested.
  • Maintain clean organized storage/work areas (including cleaning hubs main public hallways cattery kitchen and visiting rooms).
  • Ensure medical books are filled out and turned in daily by 3 pm; complete a nightly pre-check out prior to closing manager checkout.
  • Provide input for staff performance reviews; may participate in hiring and disciplinary processes (including for kennel staff).
  • Serve as second-in-commandstepping into the managers role when theyre off-site on vacation or away from the shelter.

Qualifications:

Philosophically:

  • Embrace our No-Kill philosophy and whatever it takes attitude.

Hard skills:

  • Minimum 2 years experience demonstrating advanced skill handling dogs and/or cats appropriately and humanely in a shelter boarding/training or veterinary clinic capacity.
  • Minimum 2 years experience managing/supervising others.
  • Fear Free Certified.
  • Knowledgeable about shelter-related contagious illnesses including identifying concerns and overseeing appropriate handling.
  • Experience facilitating animal behavior modification and training programs (SAFER testing etc.).
  • Highly proficient with computers (Microsoft Office email) and entering/searching for information in data management software (e.g. PetPoint/Excel or equivalent).

Soft skills/other:

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and initiative.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization.
  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal).
  • Comfortable navigating difficult/stressful situations requiring conflict resolution with employees and/or customers.
  • Able to pivot and react quickly to unplanned challenges.
  • Flexible to work nights and weekends.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with animal sounds smells and allergens.
