Methodist University is seeking to hire a Director of Student Activities for its new School of Medicine in in Fayetteville NC. The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine (MU CFVH) is a LCME preliminarily accredited program with a starting date in July 2026 for its inaugural class. Our mission is to prepare our graduates to be socially accountable community-engaged evidence-based compassionate equity-focused physician leaders who will contribute to mitigating health disparities and improving health outcomes in southeastern NC or wherever they may practice. The position reports to Senior Associate Dean for Student Experience through Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:
The Director of Student Activities provides strategic leadership oversight and implementation of co-curricular and extracurricular programming that supports the academic professional and personal development of medical students. This role is responsible for cultivating a vibrant inclusive and mission-aligned student life experience that enhances student engagement leadership development wellness community service and professional identity formation within a rigorous medical education environment.
The Director collaborates closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Experience the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs students faculty staff and institutional partners to ensure student activities align with institutional values accreditation standards (LCME) and the overall educational mission of the medical school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Student Organizations & Leadership Development
- Provide oversight advising and support for all recognized student organizations including interest groups affinity groups service organizations and professional societies
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for student organization recognition governance funding and compliance
- Support student government and leadership councils including training advising and leadership transition planning
- Design leadership development initiatives that promote professionalism ethical decision-making teamwork and inclusive leadership
- Programming & Campus Engagement
- Plan coordinate and assess co-curricular programming that supports student engagement wellness and community building
- Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and partner to integrate activities with wellness initiatives service-learning and professional development
- Support signature events such as orientation activities white coat graduation student appreciation events cultural celebrations and leadership retreats
- Ensure activities are inclusive accessible and supportive of student identities and backgrounds
- Wellness & Professional Identity Formation
- Partner with wellness counseling and advising teams to promote balance resilience and healthy engagement
- Embed wellness principles into student programming and organizational activities
- Support initiatives that foster professional identity formation and ethical development consistent with the medical profession
- Policy Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure student activities comply with institutional policies LCME standards Title IX FERPA and applicable regulations
- Provide guidance on risk management event safety travel policies and financial stewardship
- Maintain accurate documentation related to student organizations and activities
- Budget & Resource Management
- Manage student activities budgets funding allocations and financial tracking
- Oversee student organization funding processes and ensure responsible use of resources
- Collaborate with advancement community partners and institutional stakeholders to support programming
- Assessment & Continuous Improvement
- Assess the effectiveness of student activities and engagement initiatives using data-informed practices
- Prepare reports and recommendations to improve student experience and outcomes
- Contribute to accreditation documentation and institutional reporting related to student engagement and support
Qualifications- Masters degree in student affairs higher education administration counseling or a related field required.
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in student experience preferably in a medical school or health professional school setting.
- Experience working with medical students
- Strong judgment and ability to navigate sensitive student issues with professionalism and discretion
- Strong understanding of student development theory best practices in student experience and relevant regulations (e.g. Title IX ADA FERPA).
- Excellent communication interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive campus environment.
- Experience with student information systems and other relevant technologies.
- Experience with accreditation processes related to medical school and student experience is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in medical education or health professions education
- Familiarity with LCME standards and accreditation processes
- Supervisory experience and budget management experience
- Training or experience in wellness leadership development or appreciative/advising frameworks
Working Conditions:
- Office-based with regular interaction with students
- Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities required
- Fast-paced academic medical environment
