Job Summary

The Environmental Professional Summer Student will support environmental field and office activities while developing practical skills and experience in site assessment reclamation and environmental project delivery. Working under the guidance of Environmental Professionals Project Managers (PMs) and Project Coordinators (PCs) the Environmental Professional Summer Student will contribute to field data collection documentation and project support tasks with a strong emphasis on health safety and quality.

What would you be doing

  • Assist with environmental programs within the site assessment and reclamation practice areas including Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments Reclamation Site Inspections Vegetation Management Detailed Site Assessments and Regulator Closure across Alberta and Saskatchewan.  
  • Assist PMs and PCs with preparation of environmental field programs including file review mapping requests field packages and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Supervision of minor field activities related to the reclamation or restoration as directed.
  • Assist PMs and PCs with execution of environmental project tasks including progress updates field notes site photographs field sketches vegetation and soil assessments borehole logging soil sampling preparation of samples and digital data uploads.
  • Assist PMs and PCs with the preparation of technical reports and other deliverables as directed.
  • Complete all daily safety requirements in alignment with the FLINT Safety Management System and applicable client-specific safety protocols.
  • Perform administrative duties within required timelines.
  • Participate in other projects and assignments as required.

Qualifications :

  • Currently enrolled or recently completed a Technical Diploma or University Degree in environmental science/engineering or related discipline in Alberta or Saskatchewan. 
  • Foundational knowledge or experience in environmental studies soils identification and classification vegetation identification and classification and reclamation principles.
  • Proficient with office software including MS-Outlook MS-Teams MS-Word and MS-Excel.
  • Strong initiative and ownership with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary project team environment.
  • Excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; with the willingness and ability to maintain effective communications with remote team members.
  • Valid class 5 drivers license maintained in good standing.
  • Experience operating light-duty trucks safely in a field environment.
  • Demonstrated priority focus on health & safety.

This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position and will require completion of drug and alcohol testing.
