The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in supporting volunteers at The Mustard Seed Foothills Shelter dedicating 50% of their time to Volunteer Engagement department coordination and 50% to facilitating evening volunteers onsite. Volunteers are essential to our mission to reduce poverty and eliminate homelessness and this role helps ensure they feel supported equipped and connected while contributing to impactful shelter programs.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the first point of contact for volunteers creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere
- Provide volunteer briefings and debriefings deliver training for various volunteer roles and foster morale appreciation and a strong team dynamic
- Assist with volunteer recruitment and onboarding best practices for Foothills Shelter volunteers
- Act as a supportive and proactive teammate to fellow support staff
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure programs have the resources and capacity needed for effective delivery to clients
- Develop and sustain volunteer-led programming by identifying needs or gaps and engaging volunteers to support these initiatives
- Facilitate volunteer engagement within the Foothills Shelter
- Build and maintain volunteer retention best practices across shelter programs
- Maintain systems and procedures related to volunteer recruitment engagement appreciation development and training
- Respond to volunteer inquiries via email and phone in a timely and professional manner
- Provide volunteers and staff with essential day-to-day program information particularly during seasonal increases in activity
- Maintain the volunteer database on a daily basis
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- University degree in a related field (Human Resources Administration Volunteer Management Social Services Customer Service) or equivalent experience
- Minimum two years experience in a supervisory leadership or volunteer coordination role
- Experience working with volunteers or volunteer programs preferred
- Strong organizational administrative and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience working with marginalized populations particularly individuals experiencing homelessness is an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time position: TuesdaySaturday 1:009:00 PM
- Evening and weekend work required
- Role involves moderate walking standing sitting lifting and frequent interaction with staff volunteers and clients
- Requires analytical thinking problem-solving and administrative coordination
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems required
