Job Summary

Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6 at Annandale and North Shore.

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students including 120 boarders (7-12) of whom approximately 25 are international students.

As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

We invite applications from accomplished and strategic educational leaders to lead and manage the Schools academic program (Years 712) while maintaining a watching brief across P6 curriculum.

Reporting to the Deputy Principal and working closely with the Senior Management Team this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping academic excellence strengthening pedagogy and ensuring rigorous curriculum governance aligned to QCAA and IB frameworks.

The Opportunity

This position provides whole of school academic leadership with direct oversight of Curriculum Leaders North Ward teaching staff (academic matters) and key teaching and learning support roles. The successful candidate will combine strategic vision with operational precision to ensure consistent high quality outcomes for students and staff.

Strategic Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Curriculum Leaders as a high-performing middle leadership cohort driving strategic development of QCAA and IB programs.
  • Oversee implementation and consistent uptake of a school wide Teaching & Learning Framework.
  • Chair and contribute to curriculum planning processes to ensure contemporary evidence-based curriculum design and professional development.
  • Partner in performance counselling of under-achieving students (Years 712) ensuring strong academic monitoring and intervention structures.
  • Provide considered counsel to the Principal on policy staffing and resource allocation matters.

Core Operational Focus

  • Drive pedagogical excellence and enhanced teacher capability including Early Career mentoring and professional growth.
  • Manage teacher probationary reviews (School-based and QCT) and oversee processes for transition from Provisional to Full Registration.
  • Monitor academic standards including distribution of Levels of Achievement across faculties and QCE credit integrity.
  • Oversee AARA processes and Special Consideration authorisation in consultation with relevant leaders.
  • Lead quality control of curriculum deployment across Moodle and other LMS platforms.
  • Manage performance matters with professionalism clarity and procedural fairness.
  • Maintain rigorous academic policy documentation aligned to best practice standards.
