The Opportunity

Are you looking to be part of a smart innovative team making internet-savvy digital video content Are you curious creative and have mad editing skills Does visual storytelling come naturally to you Are you a creator at heart Are you obsessed with shaping stories for digital audiences from long-form YouTube videos to punchy short-form cutdowns for socials Do you care about how videos look as much as much as how they are cut from composition to overall visual polish Do you have a strong eye for visual design and enjoy applying it to digital video and social content

In this role youll have the opportunity to prove your ability to tell stories in new and engaging ways and to push the boundaries of video transformation. As part of a growing digital video team you will play a key part in conceptualizing and creating digital videos for YouTube Instagram and TikTok.

You will work with a team to produce captivating explainer videos on issues shaping the lives of our Ontario audience. This includes topics such as housing affordability and trade wars. The videos range from politics to science to tech. You will shape stories from concept through editing. You will create YouTube-first videos that combine rigorous research and primary source journalism standards with engaging storytelling that reflects the experiences of communities across the province. We recommend checking out Unravelled one of TVOs digital video series to get a feel for the tone craft and storytelling style behind our work.

There is no minimum experience required but you should be a whiz at editing with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. You should live and breathe social media. And if you can show viral success in one of your works on a social platform so much the better.

You should have a positive independent attitude. You should be able to think on your feet. And you should take your work seriously but not yourself.

How you will make an impact

• Working with a producer youll use Adobe Premiere & After Effects to cut weekly digital videos on topics ranging from politics to the climate crisis from tech to education to work disruption to post on YouTube and social media platforms.
• Being part of a team creating short digital POV video series and VLOG series. And you may be part of scripted factual digital videos.
• Getting the details just right making quick edits based on feedback cataloguing your files and delivering assignments on time.
• Being called on to give valuable feedback and observations in team meetings supplying creative ideas and offering a keen eye and a sense of timing to help us get each video just right.
• Captivating our viewers by editing in a style and creativity that aligns with our audience needs. You will ensure your work has all-around consistency (style fonts brand and tone).

What you will bring to TVO

• Experience conceptualizing producing and editing digital videos with with a cohesive creative direction and visual language
• A strong reel that accurately reflects your skills and understanding of creating video for digital and social media platforms in particular Instagram and YouTube.
• Well-versed in Adobe Premiere Adobe After Effects and Photoshop
• Experience with some video production. Ideally you have a working knowledge of digital camera equipment and some field experience.
• Foster a strong (no-procrastination) work ethic collaborating with team members on deliverables.
• Ability to move forward on a task with sometimes-minimal direction but knows when to stop and ask questions.
• Ability to organize and archive projects and footage using established processes.
• Demonstrated experience with completing quick turnaround projects and understanding immediate needs and timelines.
• An aptitude and desire to learn new applications and technology quickly.
