Job Summary:
The Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for the overall leadership supervision and development of the districts girls basketball program. This includes oversight of all levels of the program student-athlete academic monitoring staff supervision program budgeting and community engagement. The coach will promote excellence sportsmanship and character development both on and off the court.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned as needed).
Program Leadership and Oversight
- Provide leadership and supervision for all levels of the girls basketball program.
- Coordinate program philosophy skill development and expectations across all levels.
- Evaluate assistant and lower-level coaches on performance knowledge professionalism and interactions with athletes and parents.
- Maintain and oversee the program budget.
- Maintain and manage equipment inventory; purchase equipment as needed.
- Conduct scouting reports and analyze game film.
- Track and maintain team and individual statistics.
- Maintain signed student and parent codes of conduct.
Coaching and Player Development:
- Conduct practices 56 days per week during the season.
- Participate in a full season of scheduled games and tournaments.
- Coordinate practice schedules for all program levels.
- Emphasize academic accountability by monitoring student-athlete grades and performance.
- Promote proper conduct sportsmanship and leadership among student-athletes.
- Set and model high standards of behavior for students and the community.
Summer and Off-Season Responsibilities:
- Conduct open workouts two days per week during the summer.
- Participate in two summer leagues.
- Organize and conduct summer camps for grades 48 and 912.
- Encourage participation in individual and team camps.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Attend required annual rules meetings.
- Attend coaching clinics and professional development opportunities.
- Attend conference district and tournament seeding meetings.
- Maintain strong knowledge of current basketball rules strategies and skill development.
Operations and Logistics:
- Ensure facilities are prepared for practices and games (including court readiness and equipment setup).
- Travel with the team to all contests and tournaments.
- Travel as needed for scouting purposes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and coaches at all program levels.
- Provide direction mentorship and performance feedback to coaching staff.
- Promote alignment of program philosophy and expectations across all levels.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this position successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience.
- Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate required.
- Previous coaching experience at the high school and/or collegiate level preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basketball rules strategies and skill development.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students parents staff administrators officials and community members.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Ability to present information and respond effectively to questions from groups or individuals.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including whole numbers fractions decimals and percentages.
- Ability to maintain budgets track statistics and analyze performance data.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to interpret and apply written and oral instructions schedules policies and procedures.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making in dynamic situations.
- Ability to focus analyze information and apply knowledge to perform essential job duties.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

- Knowledge of MSHSAA rules and district policies.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk speak hear and use hands for repetitive motions reaching and handling equipment. The employee may occasionally stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision distance vision hand-eye coordination and the ability to distinguish colors.
The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds including athletic equipment and related emergency situations involving student or staff safety physical demands may exceed those listed.
These physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made in accordance with applicable law.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing essential job duties.
- The noise level is typically moderate to high especially during practices and games.
