TITLE: Instructional Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL:
To support the instructional programs for students with special needs; to provide pertinent information and consultant services to staff members and parents; to evaluate and assess the implementation of all aspects of the program as well as the development of IEPs; to support the PLCs and maintain on-going planning with the special education classroom teachers; to participate in the SPED process.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
N/A
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Liaison between the special education department and the schools general education staff
- Assists with student related issues
- Collaborates with building administration and participates in team meetings
- Attends district professional development to learn and support its implementation by special education teachers
- Assists in ordering of materials
- Supports special education district-wide programs as assigned
- Maintains regular communication with the department members
- Works with the Director of Special Education to provide a supportive mentoring training program for new hires
- Helps the Director of Special Education to develop the case-load assignments course schedules and placements
- Assists in arranging and overseeing visits to classes
- Assists the Director of Special Education in day-to-day problem solving at assigned locations
- Assists in the recruiting screening interviewing hiring training and assigning of classified staff
- Conducts department & other meetings as assigned
- Attends administrative & other meetings as assigned
- Assists with the planning and development of the departments professional development
- Assists with overseeing the departments instructional materials and supplies
- Coordinate transition activities (school to school-elementary and school to post-secondary- secondary).
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university; Possession of (or eligible for) a valid regular Mississippi teaching certificate in Special Education; Five (5) years of related professional experience.
