The Role

As our Accounts Payable Manager you will oversee the AP function ensuring accuracy efficiency and compliance in all payments and processes. You will work closely with finance leadership and cross-functional teams to support our growth implement best practices and enhance financial systems. This role will work extensively with members of other departments and outside vendors. This role offers the unique opportunity to directly impact the growth trajectory of a high growth start up and have significant career growth opportunities.

You will be at the forefront of scaling and optimizing our financial operations playing a key role in ensuring the seamless management of all company payables. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day AP functions but more importantly youll help shape processes policies and automation that will support our rapid expansion. You will work cross-functionally with teams such as Finance Procurement Legal and Operations to ensure that our vendor relationships remain strong expenses are accurately accounted for and payments are processed efficiently. This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be a main contributor in implementing automation tools optimizing workflows and supporting financial audits.

You Will

• Lead and manage the end-to-end accounts payable process ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices payments and expense reimbursements.
• Develop and implement AP policies and procedures to optimize workflow and maintain compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Own vendor management including onboarding verification and ongoing relationships ensuring seamless communication and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure proper coding approvals and documentation for all AP transactions.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes related to AP including accruals and reconciliations.
• Identify opportunities for process automation and improvement working with finance and technology teams to enhance efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements including 1099 reporting and sales/use tax obligations.
• Support audits and financial reporting by maintaining accurate records and documentation.

The Expectations

In your first 30 days you will develop a strong understanding of our current processes and organizational structure. You will meet with stakeholders across the organization to better understand how the Accounts Payable function works with other teams. You will gain a strong understanding of how to operate all accounts payable related software and other tools needed for your role.

In your first 60 days you will fully own the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable function. You will start to identify areas for improvement in the account payable operations and processes and make recommendations on how to improve these processes.

After 90 days you will have built key relationships so that you are the go-to subject matter expert in your field for all things accounts payable.

You Have

• 5 years of accounts payable experience with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role
• Experience in a high-growth fast-paced environment ideally within a technology or startup setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset when working with vendors and internal teams.
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively across all levels with a customer service mindset and passion about building strong internal and external relationships
• Experience working with international subsidiaries and knowledge of VAT
• Proficiency in AP automation tools and accounting software (e.g. NetSuite Navan Coupa or similar).

Waleed brings over 17 years of finance leadership experience across high-growth technology companies with deep expertise in software global accounting operations and public-company reporting. Prior to Cockroach Labs he served as VP of Finance & Corporate Controller at Backblaze (NASDAQ: BLZE) where he led IPO readiness and execution scaled the finance organization and implemented SOX-compliant processes. His earlier experience includes technical accounting and SEC reporting leadership roles at Visa and Dynavax as well as Big 4 audit experience at Deloitte and EY.

A two-time graduate of UC Berkeleys Haas School of Business (MBA BS) Waleed is passionate about building high-performing teams leveraging AI to elevate finance and designing scalable systems and controls. Originally from the Bay Area and now living in San Mateo he enjoys participating in team sports and spending time with his wife and three young kids.
