Who are we looking for

Nuclear Waste Management & Decommissioning Lead Deep technical authority lifecycle expertise delivery assurance and waste/decommissioning specialization.

Purpose of the Role

To support GHDs growth in the Nuclear Sector under our growing Energy business in Ontario GHD is making investments to increase our footprint in radioactive waste management and decommissioning space. This role will provide senior technical leadership in the radioactive waste and decommissioning sector create opportunities to build GHDs role in radioactive waste management and decommissioning building off existing capabilities develop team to support capability in radioactive waste management and decommissioning and support strategic market development for GHDs energy clients in Ontario. Overall this role will address a gap in GHDs capability supplementing our existing experiences in low-level radioactive waste by incorporating deep nuclear decommissioning and waste expertise to strengthen multidisciplinary project delivery.

Strategic Rationale

  1. Supports GHDs Future Energy Strategy
    Nuclear energy and decommissioning are increasingly prominent within GHDs Ontario market with new announcements in Nuclear energy. We currently lack senior inhouse leadership with endtoend nuclear waste compliance and decommissioning expertise. Ians 30 years of technical and managerial experience primarily in the United Kingdom which has a more developed nuclear waste management sector than Canada and directly addresses this strategic gap.
  2. Strengthens our Position on HighValue Opportunities
    His capability aligns withand enhancesour environmental and remediation experience for projects such as the Port Hope Long-Term Waste Management Facility and future CNL decommissioning work and similar opportunities that may be available with other GHD client.
  3. Enables Development of a Dedicated Nuclear Practice
    This role will be foundational to establishing a recognized Nuclear Sector within the Energy group setting standards processes and strategic direction while growing market presence and aid in development of talent capacity.
  4. Builds Internal Technical Depth in Nuclear Waste & Decommissioning
    Ians background spans waste compliance integrated waste program delivery and regulatory alignment from the UK and Canadian contextsexperience not currently present at GHD.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team you will be involved in:

Sector Establishment & Market Leadership

  • Support implementation of GHDs strategic growth plan in the nuclear sector within the Energy Business Group as an experienced senior practitioner.
  • Identify priority market opportunities and capability including decommissioning and waste management opportunities.
  • Represent GHD in strategic forums and nuclear industry bodies.

Technical Oversight & Delivery Excellence

  • Provide senior technical reviews for nuclear projects including waste characterization decommissioning planning quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Offer expert inputs to multidisciplinary projects across remediation environmental engineering and project management teams.
  • Strengthen GHD capability on projects by supplementing environmental remediation waste management and demolition/decommissioning expertise with nuclear waste specialization.

Client Engagement & Business Development

  • Engage with CNL OPG NB Power and other key nuclear clients to position GHD for upcoming opportunities.
  • Lead proposal strategy and technical positioning for major nuclear pursuits.
  • Develop long-term relationships with operators regulators and partner organizations.

Capability Building & Internal Leadership

  • Mentor and develop a team of nuclear SMEs at GHD building capability organically.
  • Establish nuclear-sector delivery frameworks QA processes and best practices.
  • Support training knowledge transfer and internal uplift of nuclear technical literacy across business groups.

What you bring to the role:

  • Professional Engineer (.) Certified Project Manager or equivalent nuclear industry credential
  • Familiarity with federal/provincial nuclear policy CNSC regulatory processes and transportation of dangerous goods.
  • 20 years of experience executing projects in radioactive waste management engineering and decommissioning (current role).
  • Recognition within the nuclear industry through service performance or membership to industry groups.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry within Canada.
  • Ability to build collaboration across both UK and Canadian regulatory frameworks working with GHDs UK business unit to share learnings between regions.

Salary range will be determined by skills experience and location: range: $$142215 to $172025
