ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Position Overview

The University of St. Thomas (UST) a private Catholic university rooted in the liberal arts and the Catholic intellectual tradition in Houston Texas invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director for the McNair Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director and helps advance the Centers mission of fostering innovation entrepreneurial thinking and free enterprise within the Universitys Catholic liberal arts tradition. Through program support that integrates practical entrepreneurial skills with reflection on economic life ethical responsibility and leadership the Assistant Director contributes to student and alumni engagement and to USTs broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director provides operational and programmatic support for the planning execution and continuous improvement of the McNair Centers programs events and initiatives in collaboration with Cameron School of Business staff. Key areas of responsibility include event logistics marketing and communications student engagement directory and merchandise management and day-to-day oversight of the Centers 3D Printer Lab including scheduling workflow coordination and supervision of student staff.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination and Operations

  • Coordinate logistical and administrative aspects of recurring Center programs including: Rolling Pitch (biweekly pitch series) StartupMax (monthly speaker sessions) and the Emerging Topics Speaker Series.
  • Oversee event logistics including scheduling room and space coordination refreshments materials setup and post-event follow-up.

Marketing and Communications

  • Develop and manage marketing materials for Center programs and events including flyers email campaigns and social media content.
  • Coordinate with the University Marketing and Communications Office to support broader outreach.
  • Maintain the Centers event calendar and assist with routine updates to the Center website and related platforms.

Student Engagement and Club Support

  • Support the Pioneer Society (entrepreneurship student organization) in planning and implementing student-led initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between student leaders the McNair Center and relevant University offices.

Directory and Inventory Management

  • Maintain and update the Celtepreneurs Directory of student and alumni entrepreneurs.
  • Order track and manage McNair Center merchandise and event supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and oversee distribution at events and student activities.

3D Printer Lab Oversight

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of 3D Printer Lab operations including scheduling and workflow coordination.
  • Supervise the student assistant assigned to the lab.
  • Monitor lab usage support safety protocols and coordinate with technical support as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain records meeting notes and documentation related to Center activities.
  • Track action items and assist with internal reporting.
  • Coordinate routine communications with students faculty alumni and external partners.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required; graduate degree preferred in a related field such as business free enterprise entrepreneurship management innovation liberal arts disciplines related to economic life ethical leadership or civic responsibility higher education administration or a related area.
  • One to two years of experience in administrative support student programming event coordination or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with standard productivity and design tools including Microsoft Office Google Workspace and similar platforms.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends (approximately two to four events per month).
  • Familiarity with higher education environments or entrepreneurship-focused organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising student employees interns or volunteers.
  • Experience with inventory management or office operations.
  • Startup experience or demonstrated startup-related skills (e.g. early-stage venture support pitch preparation accelerator or incubator involvement or work in an entrepreneurial or innovation-driven environment).

Compensation and Schedule

  • Annual salary: $60000.
  • Full-time position with regular university working hours; evening and weekend onsite attendance required for Center programs and events.

Start Date

  • February 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
