Responsibilities

The Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the Gabay Bakuna (GB) Consequential Immunization Geographies Initiative and Jhpiegos immunization portfolio. The ED Surveillance Advisor will provide strategic guidance and oversight across multiple programs aimed at strengthening the epidemiological capacity of the Philippine government and enhancing preparedness and response capabilities for disease outbreaks.

The Gabay Bakuna Initiative specifically addresses the urgent need for improved measles and polio population immunity while the EDS Advisor will also work on broader public health initiatives that align with the National Immunization Strategy and the National Action Plan for Health Security.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Leadership: Serve as technical advisor for the Department of Health Epidemiology Bureau DOH CHD Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Units National Immunisation Program (NIP) Local Government Units and the United States CDC ensuring alignment with national priorities and global best practices across all initiatives.
  • Portfolio Growth:Lead initiatives to expand the program portfolio by identifying new opportunities for funding and partnership developing proposals and fostering relationships with stakeholders and potential funders in the public and private sectors.
  • Program Implementation: Strategize and assist in the development and execution of comprehensive work plans and activities focused on epidemiology and surveillance outbreak preparedness and response for various vaccine-preventable diseases particularly measles rubella and polio at national and project site/s level.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze and interpret vaccine-preventable disease epidemiological data and surveillance trends to inform programmatic decisions policymaking and response actions across multiple health initiatives.
  • Capacity Building: Facilitate the strengthening of local capacities in epidemiology and disease surveillance through training and mentorship of health professionals ensuring high-quality implementation of guidelines and practices consistent with international health regulations and supervision of EPI and Surveillance team and technical support in outbreak response and Measles SIA support.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in a health-related field required; masters degree in public health Epidemiology or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7-8 years of progressive experience in vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology disease surveillance public health epidemiology or related areas required.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in leading health programs or initiatives with a strong ability to work collaboratively with government agencies NGOs and international stakeholders.
  • Proposal Development: Proven track record in successfully developing and submitting proposals for funding as well as expanding program reach and impact.
