Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire and Information Services Specialist 2 for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin Illinois to provide intermediate technical support to Elgin Mental Health Center staff and paraprofessional staff in the use of software programs used by State Operated Hospitals. Utilizes knowledge of hard and software packages and peripheral equipment utilizes software applications and corresponding training programs for staff. Serves as primary helpdesk contact for Elgin Mental Health Center performing helpdesk services and equipment in accordance with established operational standards and guidelines. Performs troubleshooting of incidents of an intermediate level of difficulty. Participates in the development of methods and procedures and training programs services and processes.

Essential Functions

  • Provides intermediate technical support to Elgin Mental Health Center staff and paraprofessional staff in the use of software programs used by State Operated Hospitals.
  • Provides technical and analytical support for facility management staff in development and implementation of software and electric data processing systems used by State Operated Hospitals.
  • Utilizes technical ability in writing detailed instructions for Elgin Mental Health Center staff.
  • Creates and maintains instructional and informational reports documenting proper use of locally developed systems.
  • Performs technical functions.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college with coursework in computer science or directly related fields supplemented by one (1) year of related Information Technology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience working with hardware and software languages and procedures to provide assigned technical and analytical services.
  • Two (2) years of experience setting up Data Base Management Systems.
  • Two (2) years of experience setting up/troubleshooting network systems research evaluating and testing new software packages.
  • Two (2) years of experience conducting technology training for users.
  • Two (2) years of experience analyzing data logically and exercising sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  • Two (2) years of experience gaining and maintaining effective working relationships with associates vendors clients and others.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to work after business hours weekends and holidays.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
