Job Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

MCC/AC/Astronaut/Rocket Simulations:

  • Meet or exceed the standards for the safety security hygiene and emotional welfare of all simulations & rocket launch participants that may normally be expected of a firm and judicious parent.
  • Confer with the education department to develop and ensure consistency and educational integrity of all the simulations and activities.
  • Prepare and promptly distribute accurate schedules assignments and evaluations for all Space Programs related to simulations.
  • Ensure that all simulation activities schedules and special requests are developed and established with other USSRC departments to optimize facilities schedules and time.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate and current information to the simulations staff and USSRC departments.
  • Maintain accurate and current inventory records of equipment materials and supplies to ensure that the Simulations department has adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
  • Provide comprehensive training for the simulation staff to ensure that all counselors and simulator operators are highly skilled and proficient in their respective areas of responsibility.
  • Guarantee the precise and prompt completion of tasks and assignments consistently meeting or surpassing the expectations of the Director of Mission Support.

Simulations Organization Staffing and Budgeting:

  • Partner with Human Resources on employee selection hiring orientation & affiliation evaluation and discipline.
  • Ensure that Simulations staff comply with all USSRC policies & procedures as well as departmental guidelines
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks assigned to the simulation staff.
  • Complete and approve payroll for the simulations department.
  • Formally and regularly communicate all relevant and appropriate operational and corporate information to the simulation staff.

Manage Departmental Budget:

  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Mission Support Director to assist in preparing and monitoring the annual budget for the Simulations department.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of Mission Support and the Director for Logistics and Planning for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Level of Supervision: This role includes supervising staff ensuring compliance with policies and laws providing coaching and guidance to align with the Centers mission monitoring performance conducting timely evaluations and modeling strong work ethic and professionalism. The supervisor collaborates closely with the Director of Mission Support to align training with program goals conducts regular debriefs to assess and improve staff skills and optimizes scheduling to support ongoing training needs. Additionally the role involves completing performance evaluations and creating individualized development plans to foster staff growth and expertise.

Travel Required: Occasionally

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

  • A. or B.S. Degree in Management Education Science Mathematics or Humanities (preferred).

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Three years experience in a closely related educational environment with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have proven experience leading directing budgeting and scheduling staff. Must have a sincere interest in the space program.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be always detail-oriented and professional.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with guests trainees and employees.
  • Prior experience in instructional roles is highly desirable particularly in Space Camp supervisory or assistant manager positions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings and to experience all areas of the training center floor and museum.
  • Standing for extended periods (4-6 hours) directing Crew Trainers and trainees conducting lectures and operating simulators.
  • Pushing carrying and lifting boxes supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Bending kneeling and reaching to store and retrieve supplies.
  • Sight reading wrist movements and feeling to operate simulators review schedules and write reports.
  • Talking and hearing to instruct Crew Trainers and trainees and assist guests in person and over the telephone.

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Factors

  • This position involves working in a climate-controlled office environment and building.
  • This position will involve walking to/from buildings in various weather conditions.
  • This position deals extensively with employees and guests who interact with assigned areas of responsibility.
  • This position interacts extensively with small children and adults.
  • This position will require the knowledge to effectively and efficiently operate all simulators designated by management.

Expected Hours of Work

Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday 10:00a-6:00p; hours are subject to change based on the needs of the department.
