DescriptionThrough the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.
The Intern Finance (Programs Control) will support the Program Controls team in cost and schedule performance monitoring across programs. This role provides hands-on exposure to Earned Value Management (EVM) budgeting forecasting variance analysis and budget governance processes while working closely with Control Account Managers (CAMs) Data Analytics and Program Management teams. This position is ideal for a highly analytical student interested in project management and ship building.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
Project Baseline & Governance
- Support the setup maintenance and re-baselining of the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB).
- Assist in raising and implementing PMB Change Requests (PMBCRs) in Cobra.
- Ensure PMBCRs follow established governance processes defined by each Program Office and the PMO.
- Ensure budgets are allocated on a consistent and compliant basis.
Cost & Schedule Integration
- Integrate progress and actuals from multiple systems including P6 subcontractor Weekly Progress Reports (WPRs) and E1.
- Maintain and validate Cobra system data including calendars OBS WBS and grouping structures.
- Validate time phasing Earned Value Techniques (EVT) and reported progress.
Earned Value & Reporting
- Run and support weekly Earned Value (EV) reports.
- Perform data quality checks to ensure accuracy consistency and completeness of cost and schedule data.
- Assist in variance analysis and root cause investigations for Canada and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) reports.
- Support the preparation of monthly and weekly program performance reports.
Forecasting & Performance Analysis
- Assist in developing forecast models and supporting CAMs with Bottom-Up Estimate at Completion (EAC) using historical performance indicators such as CPI trends and productivity norms.
- Validate and challenge reported hours progress and performance metrics.
- Support the prevention of misreported progress or inconsistent EVT application.
Other Learning Opportunities
- Hands-on experience with industry-standard project controls systems and EVM methodologies utilizing EIA-748 standard.
- Exposure to real-world program budget governance forecasting and performance management.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
Start Date of Internship: Monday May 4th 2026.
End Date of Internship: Friday December 18th 2026 (8-Months).
