Description of Work
The Battleship Assistant Director is the Chief Operating Officer of the Memorial and serves as the deputy and subordinate to the Battleship Executive Director. This position manages operations on the Battleship Memorial visitor center ships store and surrounding properties. Responsibilities include management of the day-to-day operations budget development contract and project development and management engineering and technical planning for major renovations and supervision of temporary staff and volunteers with the incumbents areas of responsibility.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $65000.00 - $130000.00

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed onthe vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are notrequired. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:
Strong managerial interpersonal and technical skills
An in-depth understanding of engineering and maintenance on naval ships as well as a basic understanding of NC building codes
Knowledge of both government and non-profit financial management
Experience in budgeting and contract development and oversight
Very strong working knowledge of computers internal communications systems and other IT platforms
Position/Physical Requirements
Must be able to work Monday Friday 8 AM 5 PM with 1 hour lunch break
Must be able to traverse steep stairs and ramp enroute to assigned workspace and work in cramped spaces that may have little or no climate control
The Assistant Director often works long hours and occasional weekend and evening engagements

Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering and 5 years experience;
or
Associates degree in an applicable field of engineering and 7 years experience;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience (including degrees/certificates from an appropriate naval or maritime school in engineering or one or more technical fields related to shipboard maintenance).
Division Description
The Battleship North Carolina Memorial serves as the States memorial to those North Carolinians who served and died in WWII as well as a tribute to all veterans past and addition the Battleship Memorial serves as an attraction and a center of education for all levels of students. The purpose of the organizational unit is to maintain preserve repair and restore the Battleship to ensure safe access to the public. The Battleship is a self-sustaining State property that relies on ticket sales grants and donations to operate rather than appropriated funds. Due to operating as a state-owned enterprise the Battleship staff must conduct fiscal and operational management in an often complex environment requiring unique skills and knowledge.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
