Job Summary
Are you an expert in cooking or baking Do you have a passion for teaching and sharing your skills with children The City Arts Centre has a reputation for providing quality arts experiences that are accessible and affordable. Our instructors teach a variety of group programs at various Recreation Centres in the City including the City Arts Centre. Share your expert knowledge and passion for cooking and baking with the citizens of Edmonton! As a Child/Youth Cooking and Baking Program Specialist you must be confident and competent in your field and enjoy teaching others. You will be required to plan prepare and teach lessons for children to a variety of skill levels.
This position will be required to teach summer camps. Kitchen locations include Clareview Recreation Centre the City Arts Centre Booster Juice Recreation Centre Mill Woods Recreation Centre and Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre.
What will you do
- Develop and implement lesson plans for children and be able to modify these plans for a variety of learning styles and experience levels
- Manage their class time and preparation time including preparing the classroom setting equipment and supplies for each class
- Develop recipes and/or meal plans that emphasize the culinary arts or cultural dishes
- Work independently with groups of up to 12 children
- Problem solve assess the needs of participants and adjust lesson plans for a variety of skill levels
- Coach participants on correct and safe techniques for a successful class experience
- Communicate effectively and professionally in a classroom setting with a variety of age groups and physical abilities
- Create an inspiring learning environment that is engaging supportive and inclusive
- Emphasize hands-on practice to learn or improve skills
- Implement safety and clean-up procedures established for the facility in keeping with OH&S standard
- Perform other duties as required
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Completion of Grade 12
- Previous culinary teaching experience in a classroom setting or equivalent
- Experience working with children
- Excellent knowledge of cooking baking and/or decorating
- First Aid and CPR certification is a requirement of this position you must be willing to obtain this certification prior to your start date
Assets:
- Post secondary education in Culinary Arts or equivalent
Skills required for success:
- Excellent knowledge of knife skills and food safety
- Demonstrated ability to teach or mentor in culinary arts with enthusiasm while maintaining a safe environment for all participants

- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Possession of current Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certifications

Work Environment:
- Due to the nature of this work this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Hours of Work: Up to 20 hours (but most likely averaging 3-12 hours) per week for Fall Winter and Spring for afternoon evenings and weekend. Summer camps up to 40 hours per week during the day.
Salary Range: $24.210 - $35.800 (Hourly)
