The Huck Institutes of the Life SciencesMicroscopy Core Facilityis seeking aseniorPart-timeCore Research Technologist.The Microscopy Core Facilityis one ofelevenfee-for-service corelaboratoriesoperatedby theHuck Institutes ofthe LifeSciences. TheMicroscopy Coresupports bothoptical microscopyandelectron microscopyas well assample preparation.The successful candidateshould have abundant experiencein instrumentoperation and maintenanceas wellascore management.The facilitysupports research on a large variety of organismsand scales with projects originating from PSU researchers as well as external academic government and industrial entities.
The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills attention to detail the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively with theMicroscopyteam good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with team members andMicroscopyleadership.
Responsibilities: The individual willbe expected toprovide training and advice to junior staffmembers in operation maintenance andtroubleshootingofhigh-endmicroscopessuch asconfocalmulti-photonlight sheetand super resolutionopticalmicroscopes.Additionaltaskse.g.dataprocessingand computernetworkingas well asgeneral facility upkeep maintenanceandorganizationmaybe applied.
Education and Experience: This positionwillbe filledataseniorlevel ofcoretechnologistwhichrequires abachelorsdegree or higher and10 years of experiencein amicroscopycore facility or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Abachelorsdegreeor experienceinbiological sciences ormicroscopic imagingis desirable (biochemistrymicrobiologybiological orbiochemicalengineering and other related degrees).Previousexperience with advanced microscopy especiallyhigh-end opticalmicroscopysuch asconfocal and super resolution microscopy andsample preparationarehighly preferred. Experience and knowledge in imagingprocessand analysis is.
