Job Summary

Medical Assistant Trainer

Responsible for the development coordination and presentation of training for new and existing Medical Assistants (MA). The Medical Assistant Trainer provides individual and group refresher and new responsibility training as needed for all MA staff throughout the organization. The Medical Assistant Trainer ensures that curriculum is up-to-date effective ad pertinent to the audience being addressed so that MAs are competent in their duties and meeting the mission and vision of One Community Health (OCH).

This role is on-site at our Midtown location in Sacramento CA (95811).
Essential Functions:
  • Evaluate skill level of new MA staff during new hire onboarding process using the MA Assessment and Immunization checklist.
  • Responsible for the development and delivery of MA new hire and refresher curriculum and training; clinical back office and administrative.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering quality educational experience for OCH clinical staff as needed.
  • Assess and address deficiencies in MA skills and/or techniques.
  • Review daily MA internal audit worksheets and provide individual training for any MA who is deficient in any area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate clinic staff workflow provide suggestions on improvement to Health Center Manager.
  • Actively participate in assigned Quality Team meetings.
  • Work with other clinic departments (Operations EPIC Billing Nursing Services Human Resources etc.) to support OCHs mission and programs.
  • Demonstrate compliance with policies regulations and codes of conduct in all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Travel to all clinic locations as needed to observe and instruct MA staff in clinical skills.
  • Develop and coordinate quarterly skills lab for MAs. Include ECG placement competency with on-site Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Develop and coordinate bi-annual skill drills for MA competencies.
  • Coordinate and implement Mock Code drills in all clinics during onboarding for Code Blue Code White Rapid Medical Responses (RMR) and medical emergencies.
  • Develop MAs current knowledge of all clinic administered medications andprovide education to MAs as needed
  • Ensure all MAs are trained on how to apply and remove dressings and set up for procedures.
  • Coordinate with Nursing Services to assist with N95 fit testing for clinical staff during new hire onboarding and annual compliance.
  • Instruct clinical staff in Point of Care Testing (POCT) procedures and standing orders.
  • Demonstrate competency through successful instruction of staff as evidenced by positive course evaluations.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature review in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Support the vision mission and goals and demonstrate a commitment to the values of the organization
  • Perform other duties as directed
Additional Duties:
  • Maintain Medical Assistant skills by working in clinic during downtime when in need and/or at least once weekly.
Education/Experience Required:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA NCMA or CCMA)
  • Expertise in the following areas typically gained from 4 years in a Medical Assistant capacity
    • Extensive clinical experience performing and training others on core MA duties including rooming vital signs immunizations specimen collection and point-of-care testing
    • Proficient in EHR systems and clinical workflows with a strong understanding of documentation standards provider support and population health tools.
    • Strong patient communication and care coordination skills with a focus on trauma-informed care cultural sensitivity and team-based service delivery
  • Valid CPR/BLS Certification
Preferred:
  • Minimum 1 year training experience in clinical environment
  • Supervisory or lead experience
