39 hrs per week - The role is based on rotational shifts which operate on a 4 on/4 off pattern 365 days of the year. The rotational shift includes weekdays weekends and bank holidays.
About the Role
As a Security Officer youll play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe secure and welcoming environment across both on-campus and off-campus locations. Your dynamic responsibilities will include conducting regular patrols enforcing parking regulations and safeguarding the Universitys most valuable assets. From monitoring CCTV footage to responding to alarms your vigilance will protect against theft fire and other critical safety concerns.
Youll be the first line of defence in emergenciesmanaging situations with confidence assisting with evacuations and providing essential first aid when needed. Whether its overseeing visitor management supporting large-scale events or maintaining detailed incident reports your contribution will help uphold the Universitys security standards and create a trusted environment for students staff and visitors alike.
About You
You will be a highly skilled and dedicated Security Officer with a valid SIA Door Supervisor or Guarding Licence. Youll bring recent hands-on experience in security a strong understanding of criminal law and the confidence to manage a variety of incidents with professionalism and authority.
Your exceptional communication skills both written and verbal will allow you to interact effectively with colleagues visitors and law enforcement. Youll be comfortable using technology demonstrating solid computer literacy and will excel at organising prioritising and staying calm under pressure. With your sharp attention to detail integrity and customer-focused mindset youll be a trusted and valued member of our team.
A valid UK driving licence is essential as is the ability to pass an enhanced DBS check. Flexibility is key in this rolewhether its being available outside of regular hours or remaining on-call for urgent situations youll be ready to respond. Additional Information
Salary Grade 4 - Starting from 28150 rising to 30333 per annum
The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range unless there are exceptional circumstances.

- The post holder will wear the approved University Security uniform.
- The role is based on rotational shifts which operate on a 4 on/4 off pattern 365 days of the year. The rotational shift includes weekdays weekends and bank holidays.
- Post holders are required to hold a valid full UK driving licence for manual and automatic vehicles.
- The post is non-sedentary and walking between areas on the vast campus is required.
- Post holder will be required to be Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor.
- Licensed First Aid at Work and Mental Health First Aid accredited and will be required to be SIA CCTV Operator licensed. (All relevant training will be provided).
- Security staff are in a front line people facing role and are often first responders to emergency situations and therefore the ability to communicate clearly with others is an essential part of the job. We do not require that English is a first language or that fluency is at an advanced level but we do require a reasonable level of English to ensure the ability to communicate clearly.
Please note that as of April 2024 there has been a change in the UKs sponsorship threshold. Regrettably as the salary for this role falls beneath this you will not be eligible for sponsorship therefore your application will automatically be rejected.
