The Crew Leader position provides supervision and leadership to field crews ensuring the delivery of approved work plans. This role promotes teamwork through collaborative decision-making in daily operations. The incumbent leads field crews in performing manual duties manages on-site customer needs turf mowing and trimming operations and contributes to budget planning and reporting.
What will you do
- Sets daily priorities and implements work plans according to approved work standards and schedules
- Assigns tasks to individuals or small groups of staff according to areas of responsibility within the district or yard; set direction for staff to do their work in a safe and timely fashion
- Oversees the work of and sets performance expectations for completion of tasks; follows up with individuals as required and reports to Supervisor and staff on progress and on emergent issues
- Monitors and assesses staff attendance and performance; identifies issues that may require the Supervisors attention
- Assists with and provides leadership on equipment operation and safe handling of small and large operational equipment including tool cat bobcat and various trail equipment
- Assigns crews to respond to a variety of seasonal requirements in the mowing and trimming inventory
- Resolves issues with equipment breakdowns checks for safety hazards follows up on oil changes and plans for new equipment
- Inputs data of daily work completed into tracking sheets
- Ensures all equipment maintenance and replacements are on schedule and the operators are trained and oriented prior to use
- Ensures safety incident reporting and appropriate training for all staff is completed
- Ensures all training and/or staff certification is maintained and up-to-date
- Participates in mentoring training and orientation of new staff members
- Work is inspected to specified quality standards and expectations
- Rendering professional advice opinions assistance and services to your direct supervisor
- Perform other related duties as required
- 2 year diploma in a related field or a recognized equivalent in experience and education
- 3 years of work experience as required by area of specialization such as parks construction or maintenance building parks recreational zoological arboricultural or horticultural operations landscaping or heavy equipment
- Current Standard First Aid Certification
Skills required for Success:
- Possession of excellent communication skills (written and verbal) as well as analytical and problem solving skills
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Ability to monitor work plans for timeliness quantity quality productivity unit costing and accomplishments
- Experience with Google Applications Suite including Gmail Docs Sheets Chat Drive Meet Slides Maps and Calendar SAP and ArcGIS
- Ability to work and make decisions in an independent manner
- Experience monitoring and coaching employees and resolving issues with employees
- Adaptable to changing priorities whether because of managerial direction or weather dependency
- Experience dealing with difficult people

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

- Must be able to work day night and weekend shifts up to 10 hours per shift
