This is recreation work that involves program planning leading supervising and implementing the Licensed Preschool program for children ages 2.5 5 years. Duties are performed within established guidelines but independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the program. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of instruction services provided and conformation to established practices. For this casual position the incumbent will only be scheduled on an as need basis during preschool hours.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Plans leads and implements the Licensed Preschool program for the delivery of safe healthy and enjoyable care and learning for children ages 2.5 5 years within established standards and guidelines
- Supervises and leads the planning and organizing of experiences for preschool children to promote stimulate and develop their intellectual physical and social-emotional growth in a play-based learning environment
- Fosters social experiences including respect for oneself respect for others and respect for the environment and actively promotes positive interactions and communications diversity and inclusion.
- Promotes and enhances creative ideas daily in all program areas including literacy numeracy motor-skill development arts music and movement science and outdoor education.
- Ensures toys and all equipment are maintained to safety and health standards; sets up and cleans up activity area and ensures the safety and general well-being of children at all times and adheres to Fraser Health Child Care Licensing Regulations
- Monitors the use distribution and inventory of program supplies; maintains documents on children; and follows all policies procedures and standards
- Maintains communication with Recreation Specialist Supervisors and other department staff to ensure smooth operation of the program
- Performs other duties as required.
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- Completion of a diploma or certificate program from a recognized post-secondary institution in Early Childhood Education
- Three (3) years related experience in leading a preschool program; or a combination of training and experience
- Valid BC License to Practice Certificate Early Childhood Education (ECE).
- Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Food Safe (must be obtained prior to start date)
